Problems sending email to gmail accounts

I have to send emails to my choir members, which I do as bcc.  For those members who have gmail accounts, often the emails are going into spam or just not being received, but sometimes they go through.  So I never know if they've been received or not.  In many cases, my email is listed in the recipients address book.

Please help - very annoying, as today someone drove to an event that had been cancelled.  Thanks!

I have found that all email originating from a TalkTalk addresses automatically go into Gmail spam. If you highlight one of these mails and then hit the 3 dots in the upper right corner, there is an option in the drop down to Report as not spam (it's in Red). The message says that all emails from this sender will now go to your inbox. The highlighted message is also moved to Gmail Inbox. Worked for me

That's fair enough, if Microsoft's site says that. You have to make sure you haven't changed that setting, otherwise it doesn't apply.

Using the safe senders list, in Microsoft Outlook is a surer bet.

 

However, there is a problem with Microsoft Outlook

My version of Outlook, 'Outlook for Windows' can't handle spam filter settings any more. So, I would rather not use Outlook

Other people may not use Outlook, in any case.

 

TalkTalk's 'Allowlist' does the job, perfectly.

 

Edit: also there are no-reply email addresses which would not be in the address book, but which  need to be 'Allowlisted', otherwise they end up in the Spam folder, An example of these addresses, are some of TalkTalk's own addresses.

 

Edit2: I think it boils down to this,

To deal with any email spam filtering issues, its best to do that, via the email address's own email provider's app, and follow it's guidelines, not via third party app. For my TalkTalk addresses I would do that via TalkTalk webmail. If I had a real Outlook address or  other Microsoft address, I would do it via the Microsoft Outlook app, etc. That doesn't mean 3rd party apps are not useful for other things.

@Billx from the Microsoft support site.

 

By default, email addresses in your Outlook contacts are considered safe senders by the Junk Email Filter, but you can change this setting. 

 

So if you haven't changed the settings it does the job.

 

The same holds for Thunderbird, so I'm assuming it does for Gmail and other providers.

The choir are the only ones I send group emails to from my Talktalk account.  But I don't want to use my other account as I like to keep that for work emails.

Hi @jmdor. Just to confirm, is the issue occurring only when you send emails to my choir members, or are you experiencing it with other email recipients as well?

There are 2 ways of attempting to force a spam-marked email, from the spam folder to the inbox folder:

adding the incoming email address into one's address book

adding the incoming email address into one's 'Allowlist' (sometimes called safe senders list)

 

For TalkTalk,  adding the incoming email address into one's 'Allowlist' works well (I am not sure if adding it to the address book, will do the same thing or nothing)

 

Looking at it from gmail's point of view, it is possible either of the 2 ways will work. But maybe only 1 of the 2 ways will work.

So, if gmail can do it via the 'Allowlist' way, that is an option.

Or you could look into opening a Hotmail account for the choir and using this for your mails etc.

@jmdor thanks for starting your own thread.

 

There is a known issue and Microsoft and Google are working with TalkTalk to find a solution as it's affecting Hotmail and Gmail in the main.

 

Staff are back tomorrow and will add your details to those users affected by this.

 

All you can ask your members to do us add your address to their address books which could help minimise the issue.
