I use a laptop for emails, but most of the screen is taken up by talktalk and its dreadful adverts. When I increase the size of the letters (to help with reading them), the amount of screen devoted to my emails gets even smaller. Can antthing be done, apart from leaving talktalk altogether?

Hey @nambuso-TT, not really I'm afraid, it is what it is as the saying goes.
@Octa21 Any particular reason? I never use webmail for what I regard as my main accounts, just a couple of for-the-purpose outliers. And I don't use TalkTalk mail in any event so the issue doesn't arise for me.

@ferguson any suggestion on this?

Hi Nambuso-TT, I am not yet using a mail client and am not sure I wish to.

Hi Ferguson, I am now looking into what mail clients are and what they do.

I did also suggest using a mail client.

Many thanks Whizz Kid. I'll try it on 'List' and cut the letter size to 80% where there are 8 emails listed (if I can read such a small size). At my usual magnifications I can only see two listed at 120% or just one email listed at 133% because the advert space enlarges so much.
Pretty awful, isn't it.

It seems that those advising you to use an ad blocker do not realise that does not resolve the issue, because the ad blocker does not remove the space allocated to ads, when ads are blocked.
A different layout may improve the situation. To change the layout, click on the gearwheel at the top right, on 'All settings', then on Mail (if not already selected).
If you are using horizontal layout, then the central portion of the window is shared by the list of emails in the folder, and the email viewing pane. The dividing line between the two can be dragged up/down to increase the area allocated to each, thereby making it possible to increase the size of the email viewing pane.
Using list view may be a better option, because the central portion of the window either displays the list of emails in the folder, or the selected email along with a link to go back to the list.
Let us know how you get on. 🙂

Hi, I still have a laptop screen largely taken up by a wide TalkTalk band and two blank advertising spaces, one both wide and right across the bottom of my screen from side to side. Yet I've heard nothing back about it from TalkTalk. Why not?

Yes the problem still persists. I have used an adblocker which has removed the glaring adverts, but the large spaces the adverts took up on my laptop screen , top left and also across the bottom from side to side, now remain blank and increase in size when I enlarge the lettering to read them more easily. Together with the wide Talktalk band across the top it leaves not much screen left to read the email.
Is this a deliberate Talktalk policy? If so it needs to change fast.

Hi @Octa21 let us know if you have used the above suggestion and if the issue still persists.

Try an ad blocker. Or use a mail client.

I already use Firefox and always deny use of cookies. The adverts can only come from talktalk. Even when there are no adverts (one top left and another across the bottom), their spaces remains blank. So I'm left with about one third of the screen for the emails. When I turn up letter size to 120 or 130% to make it easier to read, the advert spaces just get bigger and bigger!

Hi @Octa21 I'm sorry to hear this. Sometimes, different browsers handle web pages differently. If you're using a browser that displays ads heavily, try switching to another browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Edge) to see if the experience improves.
