What does png mean in email

Have started to receive emails with missing text replaced by the term png.

It only seems to involve messages from one specific email address but not all emails from the address  are affected, some come through without problem.

In addition some of my filed emails from this address, received in previous months, also show png even though they were intact and fully readable on the dates received.

It could relate to email file size but am not sure.

Appreciate some guidance.

In TalkTalk Webmail, there are no specific "PNG settings" to change, as PNG is an image file format rather than a setting within the email service. However, if you're looking to manage how images (including PNG files) are handled in your emails, you can adjust some general settings related to images and attachments. Here’s how you can do that:

  • Log In: Access your TalkTalk Webmail account by logging in.
  • Access Settings: Click on the gear icon or "Settings" option, usually found in the upper right corner of the webmail interface.
  • Mail Settings: Look for options related to mail settings. This may include settings for composing emails, attachments, and how images are displayed.
  • Attachments: If you want to manage how attachments (including PNG files) are handled, check for any settings related to attachments. This may include options for file size limits or how attachments are displayed in emails.
  • Save Changes: If you make any adjustments, be sure to save your changes.

Alright, please do check your settings if you are able to view pictures on your emails since PNG files are a common format used to display images as @ferguson mentioned above, thanks.

Hi. Am using TalkTalk  webmail to sign in. For your info. I am able to forward the 'png' non readable emails from TalkTalk to a Gmail account that I use where they open and are fully readable.

@Foxed2 Are you using a mail client or webmail when logging in to your TalkTalk emails?

Thanks for response. I first noticed it around 7th May and it only relates to TalkTalk emails

If I forward the png corrupted emails to a Gmail account that I use they open with full content l.e there's no png on Gmail.

Apologies for late reply.

Am using Talk Talk webmail.

Further point of interest is that if I forward one of the corrupted emails to a Gmail account it opens perfectly in Gmail.

@Foxed2

PNG files are a common format used to display images. Which email service/client are you using? You may need to tweak the settings.

Hello @Foxed2 thank you for reaching out regarding the issue you’re experiencing with emails showing "png" in place of missing text. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I’m here to help you troubleshoot the problem.

Here are a few things to consider regarding this issue:

The emails you’re receiving may be in a format that is not fully compatible with your email client. If the sender is using images or rich media that exceed certain size limits, it might cause text to be replaced with "png" or other placeholders. Some email providers have limits on the size of attachments or embedded images. If the email exceeds this limit, it may not display correctly. You might want to check with the sender to see if they can reduce the size of the attachments or images in their emails. Also ensure that there are no settings that might be affecting how emails are displayed. Sometimes, security settings can block certain content, leading to missing text.  Occasionally, emails can be misclassified, and important content may not display correctly. Make sure to check your spam or junk folder to see if any emails from this sender are being filtered incorrectly. Since this issue only occurs with emails from a specific address, it may be helpful to contact the sender and inform them of the problem. They may need to adjust their email settings or format.

If the issue persists after trying these suggestions, please let us know, and we can explore further options to assist you. Thank you for your patience, and we’re here to help.
