Just realised I have been paying for fast fibre for years but my home has never had the fibre connection installed.Only look into this as I have had no broadband connection for 6 days now. Some black boxes were put on the phone poles outside my house, the next day my internet goes off.Wondering if the workmen thought I had a fibre connection which now I no I haven't and that is the issue with my connection.I am really angry.I have had 3 online chats and all three advisors asked me if my phone line box had the red wan connection to it,I only have the normal phoneline box,so they probably know what's wrong but Wong send someone out, they are insisting I try a new router which I haven't even received yet.

The new router broadcasts on two bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
Not all devices can receive both, if they are single band they will only show the 2.4 GHz band name as available.
As a generalisation the 5 GHz band is capable of faster speeds but has less range than the 2.4 GHz band.
Forget about anything on the poles outside regarding your home WiFi, they are just infrastructure for full fibre although whoever installed them may have disturbed your phone line that carries your current connection.

I forgot to mention yesterday. When I set up my new router it was showing twice as an available network, one was just the normal router name the other was the router name with 5hz or something next to it,I choose that one.My other one never had the 5hz next to it,do you think that could have been the issue?as I said they put new black boxes on the poles the day before my internet went down I don't have a clue what 5hz is,but that was the only difference in getting the new router working.

My landline is working (although on checking it today I can hear interference, like crackling and different tones of noise)but my internet went off 6 days ago,one day after the poles in my street were fitted with some black boxes, they were doing things to the wires and I think that might be the issue .

@Unity FAST FIBRE is Fibre to the Cabinet where the last part of the connection is and has always been over the copper phone line.
What speeds do you normally receive ?
Is your landline still working ?
I would suggest you edit your signature as it looks like you are using your full name, only put personal details in your community profile, they are then only visible to staff.
