Huawei-DG8041W router giving issues with Youtube and work as well as other internet options

HI,

I had a mail recently about the Huawei-DG8041W no longer receiving updates, but also noted recently I can no longer see any comments on youtube, getting Restricted Mode has hidden comments for this video. I've checked the settings on my browsers (tried several) and they appear to be locked down by the admin.  this also affects phones.  My daughter reports the same issue although when she goes off wifi or onto someone elses wifi it works fine.  Also noted as I work from home certain applications and services no longer work for me (we use certain vpn etc but can't go into detail).  

Currently on Fibre 65, although noted faster speeds are now available in this area as well. Tried connecting to the router and can see it fine but didn't want to change any settings and make it worse.  Got another year on the contract but would be interested in faster speeds although really need to get issue fixed.  Thanks

Please complete your community forum profile details for Talktalk staff to identify your account. 

 

You need to add your Talktalk phone number or account number in Personal Information. Reach that area via your avatar/ name; settings etc. SAVE CHANGES.

So several issues here, @NelBert7 :

 

1. That hub can easily be replaced as it has not received updates for some time.

 

2. The YouTube comments problem is relatively recent but is affecting several people and has been under investigation in recent days.

 

3. Wait for staff to respond to the above during the day.

 

Presumably this is FTTC that you have with the Fibre65 package as you have the Huawei hub.

 

There is a Fibre65 Full Fibre package that could use the Sagemcom Hub2 that you may well receive as the replacement for the Huawei  - but be wary of changing packages mid-contract. 

 

Unless Talktalk has proactively offered a free upgrade, there could be installation  / admin fees added to your bill if you change contract mid term. You are still a long way off the window of opportunity for early renewal  / upgrades etc.
