Router needs restarting at least once a day to resume normal service

My router needs to be restarted at least once a day to get the internet working again.

It's only been happening for the last approx 1-2 weeks.  We've been Talktalk customers for years (10+) and the fibre service has been fantastic, so reliable but recently that has changed.

When reset the router works fine again with great speeds and reliability until it stops working again.  It's unusual that the router light on the front of the router remains white but seems like the router itself has either crashed or something else has happened.   I've been on the chat to Talktalk twice in the past few days (for some considerable time) and done the link check through Talktalk's web site without reporting any issues.  Of course when Talktalk was looking at the router remotely everything was working fine.   Always the case with these intermittent issues I guess.

Anyone else had similar experiences or have some suggestions on how to fix?

Thanks.

Jon

I've had same issues.  It's an issue with the routers apparently.  Talk talk have contacted the company to sort it so hopefully a wee update should fix it.  It's so annoying at this time of year

Hi @JonT-TT

Is the connection down now? Please don't reboot the router as our engineers would like a live example to test with?

Thanks you Michelle,

If it helps it's just recently happened again, around 12:30pm (16th Dec 24) today.

Hope you can support this issue, it's been so reliable up until the past 1-2 weeks.

Many thanks.

Jon

Hi Jon,

I'm sorry for the delay. Our Network Team are currently investigating the white light on router/no connection and I will post back here as soon as we receive an update.

Thanks

Michelle

I'm having exactly the same issue for the past 14 days, after at least 18 months without any drop.

I've just signed up to a new contract and got a new router - same problem.

There's dozens of people on here with the same problem too.

Hi all,

For info, the issue happened again today at around 11:15am.  Same routine as usual, white light on the front of the router is solid and to get it all up and running again needed the usual power the router off and on again and everything returns to normal.

Thanks.

Jon

My next suggestion was to get TalkTalk to replace your router, but you have already done that. I have asked one of TalkTalk's support to pick your thread up and investigate it for you.

They aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday - Friday) excluding Bank Holidays, but if more urgent you can always try the Service Centre on 0345 172 0088. The posts are responded to in time/date order, oldest first.

Hi Keith,

Yes, I have but still no good, same happens.

I even bought a new Talktalk router on Thursday to see if that would fix the issue but the same happens so starting to get a little frustrated with it.  It's been great for years but only recently the past 1-2 weeks it's been giving me this issue.

Thanks.

Have you tried a factory reset to return the router's configuration to default?

Hi Keith,

Yes, when the router goes into the "mode" which needs a reset both the WiFi and Ethernet ports aren't working.   Strange as the white light stays sold but all connectivity is gone.

Thanks.

Hi @JonT-TT

Is this affecting wired (Ethernet) connections as well as wireless ones?
