My wifi says weak security.  wpa/wpa2(TKIP)

my router s a Huawei HG633 version H.1.01

I want to know if I need a new router or if the existing one can be upgraded to wpa3 or better.

There are various things to consider here:-

  1. WPA3 is the current most security mode, there is nothing newer.
  2. Your router, in line with most other routers, supports WPA2 Personel with AES encryption. It cannot be upgraded. However, this does not mean it is not secure at all. Ic can offer nearly as good protection (see below).

Now please see my sticky about weak security, however, the board that you have created your thread on, means that you won't have seen it:-

A lot of the improvements of WPA3 have been added as patches to WPA2 Personel anyway, but they are optional, whereas in WPA3 they must be supported. However, the security mode used is negotiated on connection, both router (or more correctly the wireless access point) must support WPA3, otherwise the next lower security mode that they both support will be used. That would normally be WPA2 Personel, however, if these backwardly added patches have not been applied to both the AP and the device, then the extra protection that they give, will not be able to be used.

I will now move your thread to a board that is more appropriate, where the TalkTalk staff will see it (Fibre).
