Openreach — not overstretching about install of fftp.

I applied some time ago to get fftp. I have a BT chamber with all 4 properties in our site served via this on copper wire.  I own all the main driveway leading to the properties, so there is no problem with the way leave. Having had two sets of engineers to install fftp cable, to no avail. They were great to deal with - but it appears that the copper wire conduit has collapsed underground, thus preventing  the fibre wire from passing along it. So a ground work crew is required. It is less than 90 feet in distance from BT chamber to my back door.

‘Openreach’ have surveyed the garden/ driveway and want me to fund an install of new fibre cable to tune of £1,600 !! As well as a new box situated in my garden, to service all properties. I bulked at this high costs and have put it to OR via Talk Talk, that they want me to pay for the repair of their BT/OR conduit, for which is really a plant maintenance issue for them. While also co- facilitating fftp installs for my neighbours should they elect to go down this route in the future.

Surely it is most unreasonable for OR to expect me to fund this installation couched under extra engineering costs. I have  responsibility been promised a response from them but nothing has followed.

I do not feel the need with paying for my neighbours’ future installs. Has anyone any suggestions as to how to exert pressure on OR to be more realistic as to what a new customer is expected to pay for access to their service.

Are you in a rural area? You and your neighbours may qualify for the Gigabit voucher scheme.  Depends if Openreach have your premises down for connection to FTTP at some time.  If you can all get vouchers then that would more than cover the costs for all in one hit.

If you have applied for FTTP On Demand as a way of getting FTTP or getting it earlier than Openreach had planned for your area then Openreach will survey and make a charge for installation.
