Email Scams known as phishing are used by fraudsters to try and trick you into revealing personal information.
The term 'phishing' is a play on the word fishing because criminals dangle a fake bait hoping a user will respond to it.
Phishing messages and techniques are becoming increasingly sophisticated as they try to trick you into believing that the message is something you want or need, both the email and the website look genuine as they have been cloned and they hope that users will 'bite' by providing the information requested – such as credit card numbers, account numbers, passwords.
It's one of the oldest types of cyber attacks, dating back to the 1990s, and it's still one of the most widely used.
