Pairing phone to DN372T set top box

I have been using a DN372T set top box, rented through Talktalk for several years along with the EE phone app to allow me to set recordings remotely and all worked fine.

The box recently failed to operate, but Talktalk no longer offer a replacement box that records as you know, so I have cancelled my contract with them for the TV and bought a second hand DN372T box from Ebay. This works fine, but the app I used to control it, EE TV, will not pair with the box.

I set the app to pair and the Samsung phone finds the box as indicated on its screen.

The box recognises the phone and requests to pair, then the phone indicates fault code GY153.

I have hunted through the settings on the set top box, sat close to the box with the phone, and reloaded the app several times, all with the same sad result.

Please, can you help?

Many thanks, Jim.

No, the ad didn't specify the apps, but it is still within the time limit to return (Ebay).

Thanks for the idea.

@5letters I think that proves it's the box

It maybe that the app has updated to a technology beyond which it will pair with the box.

By the way, when advertised did it say it has the ITV, NOW and Netflix apps?

If so you could try and return it as those apps no longer work on this box due to technology changes.

Yup,

My wife has an Iphone (she's posh). I have tried the EE app on that, but it fails to pair with the box in the same way and brings up a similar fault code to mine.

Thanks for the suggestion.

On my android phone, the only permission the app has is for notifications, so nothing specific for network or WiFi etc.

Just a thought, does your household have another phone or tablet you can try pairing the app with the box?

You could then know it's either the box failing to pair or your Samsung.

OK, sorry about that, I was just repeating something I had seen elsewhere. Don't use it myself.

My EE box is currently paired with both my wife's and my Pixel phones and also my Amazon Fire HD8 tablet.

EE and BT are interchangeable as far as the Pro box goes. They are the same box. It is just the change in brand now that EE is dominant.

I just had a quick search and found this tip. Check to see if the EE TV app has permission to access the local network. If it does, try toggling it off and then back on again.

In all honesty, the old TalkTalk boxes are way past their best now. A BT/EE box would probably be a better option as a recorder, but we can't really offer you any guarantees here.

Thanks for your advice.

I have cleared the  data from the app, this didn't help, so reloaded the app, no help either.

Set the box back to factory settings and still no joy.

I seem to be so close to success, I set the app to pair and the Samsung phone finds the box as indicated on its screen.

The box recognises the phone and requests to pair, then the phone indicates fault code GY153.

Looks like I need to move on unless you know any other tricks.

I have never used CeX before, I'll certainly check them out for the guarantee.

Can you confirm please, does the BT /EE Pro box work with a phone app to allow remote programming?

Many thanks,

Jim

Hi,

TalkTalk do not offer advice using the BT app as it is not theirs.

It's owned by EE now and has, as you know, been opened up for use with other YouView boxes.

The app will only connect to one box at a time, so have you erased all evidence of your old box from it? Go to apps then select it and force stop and erase data. If this does not work try deleting the app, then reinstall it.

Hopefully this will allow you to connect.

Did you factory reset the box for use when you first got it? If not, the box might be holding old information on pairing which is affecting the ability for you to pair. In reality this shouldn't matter as you should be able to pair more than one phone to the box.  It might be worth doing a maintenance reset, keeping recordings, if you still can't connect.

https://support.youview.com/youview-box/box-and-remote/using-maintenance-mode/

Was this a private sale or via a company? If it still doesn't connect maybe you can return as faulty?

By the way, these boxes are approaching end of life now and we see them regularly fail.

If you wish to keep a YouView style box the next time you need a replacement the BT /EE Pro box is the current recordable box you can purchase. CeX also offer a guarantee, which you would probably not get off EBay. It also allows 4 simultaneous recordings to be made.

Retail wise, the Manhatten T4R is a Freeview based box that records.

Hope this helps.
