"Free" phone number?

I just noticed that my insurance company advertises a free helpline, beginning 0370.

As these numbers are not usually free with Talktalk's billing, could you check that I would not be charged for this in the usual way?

Is it by special arrangement with Talktalk? I know that Talktalk has free support numbers itself for customers calling 03451 720088 etc from Talktalk landlines, but need reassurance about this third party number.

It is for Lark Music, part of the Howden group.

No thank you, @Mandisa-TT, I just needed to make absolutely sure that I was getting back to the firm with the right information to clear up their wording.

Yes that is good idea, you can contact them and let them know, so that when a musician is taking up the insurance know of this. is there anything else we can assist you with?

Yes, I'm aware of that page.

I think I need to tell the firm that normal landline charges apply and they should put a note to that effect with the information about their "free legal helpline".

They also need to brush up training for their front of house agents who didn't have a clue....

@Gliwmaeden2 Please refer to the below link about call cost.

Yes, I do, and that's what I am using when I ring them.

But it's not the point - I want to know on behalf of other musicians, and the company should not be presenting its information in a way that is ambiguous or misleading.

Thousands of musicians use this insurer for specialist musician services.

@Gliwmaeden2 or if you have bundled minutes on a mobile contract, check that as it could well be free using this.

Yes, it could be read that way, @fr8ys, so I asked them.

They insisted that it's a free number.

I told them that I thought it would have to be 0800 etc to be free to call, so the whole aspect was discussed with two agents (my first smartphone call dropped out, so I had 2 goes at it).

It's obviously something that that company needs to look at again if their front line staff are also taking it to mean the phone number. I haven't got legal advice included in this insurance [that comes with professional membership of another organisation, and is not even mentioned as bundled in with this insurance].

@nomfezeko-TT, the full number to check is 03702414140. One has to then quote a particular Master Policy reference number.

If Talktalk can get back to me and tell me that it definitely would be charged as normal, I'll let Allianz Insurance plc know that it needs to retrain the people answering the phones so they give me a correct reply,  and they need to rephrase "Free Legal Helpline".

Normally, if charged, it would actually say that it would be at normal landline rates, and most companies even indicate an average price, usually 16p a minute, so, sadly, Talktalk's phone calls are way above average market prices, but not worth taking out a boost for for just one call every few months.

@Gliwmaeden2 the phone number isn't free but the legal help is.

Once you paid for legal expenses cover, the helpline for advice is a free addon to the actual expenses being paid. You can seek legal advice without putting in a formal claim.

Could it be read this way?

Hi @Gliwmaeden2 , just to make sure that I comprehend, you want to know if the number you have mentioned above is free when using TalkTalk landline telephone?

That's what I am suspecting, @fr8ys, but the company insists that it is a "free legal helpline" number.

Hoping staff can give me a definitive answer, and if it turns out to be chargeable, I'll pick that bone with the company.

It's originally Allianz Cornhill insurance, using the same phone numbers, but the music bit is under "Lark".

I simply called them on my mobile as I have all inclusive calls for normal numbers, and no time limit, but the line drops with my awful signal sometimes!

0370 numbers are generally national rate numbers. They would be free on inclusive mobile plans with free minutes.

They would only be free from landlines with the boost, but the boost isnt free!

I can't see anywhere that these calls would be free otherwise.
