Hi @StevenCH

Thanks for the ipconfig output; everything looks fine. From the symptoms of slow connections, etc, this may be more of a WiFi interference problem.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I offer a free, impartial analysis of your Wi-Fi network and will try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

Thanks for your PM, just to clarify for the rest of the forum, the answers to my questions were:-

1 The make/model of the router: Sagemcom Fast5364-T8 runningSG4K100208 firmware.  I believe the timing of this issue may coincide with this firmware release.

2 Devices are all connected wirelessly.

3 WiFi

4 No.

I have seen a couple of threads about WiFi issues with firmware V208, but I have never been able to replicate this myself.

Your case is different anyway, because it is only when your PC connects to the Wi-Fi that you have the problem. I feel the most likely causes of your problem are:-

  1. An IP address conflict between your PC & other devices or the router.
  2. Your WiFi adapter in your PC is faulty (less likely).

When you connect your PC (assuming it is running Windows), please go to the command prompt and issue the command:-

ipconfig /all

Please PM me (to protect your privacy) the output from this command.

Please can you elaborate by answering these few questions:-

1. What make/model of router do you have (if this is a TalkTalk router, these details will be on a label on the rear or underside of it)?
2. How are your device connected to the router, via wireless, wired (Ethernet) or a mixture?

3. How does your PC particularly connect to the router?

4. Have you made any configuration changes to the router particularly around IP addresses or DHCP?
