Thank you so much for letting us know you are now connected @nickcarter48

@KeithFrench Thank you so much for the support:)

Thanks to all for your time and suggestions ... taking this on board plus specialist help from Keith plus scheduled Norton scan I now consider it basically solved. I still show the wifi not connnected icon on start-up (although I have automatically connect box checked) but just a click on the icon and connected immediately at full strength. Happy with this for now. Great to know the community is  there...

Hi @nickcarter48

Looking at the netsh commands that you PMd me, there are a couple of issues. First the command:-

netsh waln show drivers

The output is truncated in your screenshot, with only the last part of the display visible. Please can you redo this using the vertical scroll bar & if needs be, taking multiple screenshots.

The second problem is that when it does work, the connection is only using the 2.4GHz band. This can be down to several factors, such as:-

  • The signal strength from where the router is, compared to the laptop.
  • Is the router in a cupboard or out in the open, plus how high it is off the floor?
  • The location of either in respect of what electronic equipment, walls, large metal objects, water tanks & even plant pots nearby.
  • The levels of WiFi interference that is present (I can provide a lot of help to check this).

Obviously out of date drivers can cause all sorts of issues. Are yours up to date? One common problem with Wi-Fi network adapters stopping working in Windows 11 is power management. This needs to be disabled on your Wi-Fi adapter. To do this:-

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager
  2. Expand the Network adapters section.
  3. Right-click on the Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter and select Properties.
  4. Go to the Power Management tab.
  5. Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  6. Click OK and restart your PC.

Hi @nickcarter48

If you want to send me the output from those three command prompt commands in a PM to me, I'll have another look.

@nickcarter48 can l asl what operating system you are using? Windows 10, 11 or other?

Can you check if it's Windows, that you have no updates pending, or if there are that you install all updates available. Type check windows update into the command box and then open, and follow any prompts to download and install.

I had this occur on my PC a while back and was forever restarting my wifi adaptor, but on updating windows, this cured it and I've had no recurrence.

Might be worth checking.

Unfortunately same problem on start up this morning ... Wi-fi not connected ... no W-fi available... -

Previously from 'Diagnose network problems' (try a different website/restart the Wi-fi adapter/restart your modem, router or access point/restart your PC) I was selecting restart your PC which worked. Now by selecting restart the Wi-fi network adapter I am immediately connected. So at least I can connect without closing down...
