Apologies for late response as have been away this afternoon ... I see that KeithFrench has beaten me to update. Following A PM I managed to locate enable wifi adapter as suggested. All seems well at the moment but will see how it it in the morning. Many thanks to KeithFrench and all for their time and suggestions. Very much appreciated. I will update tomorrow (hopefully with good news) ...

No problem, had you prefaced your previous post by "Having discussed this privately" it would have been clearer. Thanks as always. 🙂

Yes, because I was after sensitive information about his wifi card. However, as always, I summarise the outcome in the main thread.

Ah, you have resolved by private messaging?

It looks like the WiFi adapter was disabled. It now seems OK having enabled it. The customer will report back tomorrow with the outcome. Any further problems, I will be happy to deal with.

Another possibility is that some laptops have a physical switch on them somewhere to disable the Wi-Fi adapter. If yours has such a switch, perhaps you have accidentally moved it to the off position? The Wi-Fi card could also have been disabled, but you would need to go into Device Manager to check that. I can provide full details on how to check this, if required.

I can probably help you. Please can you start by sending me a PM (to protect your privacy) containing three commands from the Windows Command prompt:-
netsh wlan show drivers
netsh wlan show interface
netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid
None of these commands will reveal your Wi-Fi password, although other netsh commands will.
Note, I will need to know the names of your wireless networks.
The information below is provided by TalkTalk. For confirmation, please contact @Lorrainef, the manager of the TalkTalk support staff on this forum.

As a last resort you could purchase a USB WiFi dongle if you can't get your laptop working as it is.
There are many varied ones available so you'd need to research for your needs.

Thanks for all your time ... no I haven't another router ... but obviously a laptop problem as all 3 mobiles plus my upstairs pc are all fine ... just a mystery and I will 'bat on' ... if I use laptop in the morning and then it goes into sleep mode ... when I continue I have no wifi connections available ... I'm far from an expert but I assume if I had inadvertantly hit something ie 'airplane mode' a restart would not immediately bring it back to normal ... I will continue to research ... Thnk you

Hmm, OK. Have you got another router you can try with? Otherwise, I am out of suggestions. Although I know somebody who may be able to help: @KeithFrench any thoughts here, please?
on 10-01-2026 09:17 PM
Yes - thanks - have tried all the above - seems a mystery - as if a laptop issue I'm told a restart would not suddenly connect and find all other wifi connections (neighbours etc) as opposed to 'no wifi connections available' ...
on 10-01-2026 09:03 PM
Have you checked with the OS provider's help pages? Failing which reach out to the manufacturer directly. Or even just search for the issue generally e.g. my (brand) of laptop running (OS version) keeps dropping WiFi connection.
on 10-01-2026 09:03 PM
Thanks all - realise must be a laptop issue ... just hoping someone had had previous experience ... wifi adapter up to date ... tried trouble shoot which shows no internet connections available until I restart ... I'll soldier on ...
on 10-01-2026 08:57 PM
Thanks Ferguson - realise most likely a laptop issue - but final effort to see if anyone had the same issue previously - all software and drivers fully updated ...
on 10-01-2026 05:38 PM
@ferguson cross posted again!

Try forgetting the connection and then set it up again.
Also check your driver for your WiFi adapter is up to date.
Rather than restart the laptop, right mouse click on the internet icon in the taskbar and troubleshoot. Probably a quicker route than restarting the laptop.
If other devices connect and are connected when your laptop is not, this points to an issue with that device.
You could also try an internet search for your laptop model + internet access issue or wifi issues. A more specialist forum may give you a solution.
Hope this helps.

Well that is an issue with your laptop rather than the TalkTalk broadband service. Is your laptop fully up to date regarding software and drivers? Try "forgetting" the TalkTalk network in your wireless settings and then set it up again, see if that helps.
