It is ElleGee but if you post on a different thread it means that our responses won't get mixed with those for other customers. Of course its great to share your perspectives on this thread but if you need help it's always best to start a new one as fy8s suggests.

Moreover, upgrading to new equipment or a new package ensures that your services meet the latest TSA requirements. This offers enhanced protection, better network performance, and access to the newest features and benefits.

If you have been using the same equipment for several years, you may benefit from an upgrade. We can assess the performance of your current equipment and recommend the best options for you moving forward.

@ElleGee no problem. Its primarily a help forum, but other customers are able to post if they have an answer that helps the original poster solve their issues, rather than a me too answer.

@Murphy57 how did you request a new router? Via the phone or did you click on the link within the Email that says order your new router here?

@ElleGee please refrain from posting on other customers threads as this causes confusion, as you will have seen on another thread.

Posting on other peoples threads is seen as spam under forum guidelines you signed up to when joining the forum.

If you have an issue that you wish to be looked into by staff, please, as previously requested, start your own thread.

Thank you.

Hey there, @Murphy57. Thank you for getting in touch with us. I understand that you are querying about the charge to upgrade to a new router.

The communication you received above regarding this is correct, your broadband router will no longer be able to receive further software and security updates, now what this means is for you is that you can choose to keep your current router if you are still happy with the performance of it.

You are not required to change your current router if it still works for you, if you do want to change the router that's when the charge of £80 applies.

It is ultimately in your control if you want to order a new router at that price. Remember this does not mean that your current device is not performing or isn't secure, we will continue to monitor devices for security vulnerabilities.

@Murphy57 I've had the exact same email.

I've been with them for 21 years, firstly as AOL then TalkTalk.

I have previously been sent updated equipment without any extra cost when the current piece of equipment was becoming obsolete.

My internet connection has become increasingly unreliable so would probably benefit for the updated piece but at a cost of an extra £80, 1) I am currently not in the financial position to factor this extra cost in (no pulling at heartstrings, just fact - don't ever become chronically poorly when employed full time) & 2) I MASSIVELY begrudge having to pay for something that is fundamental to the service I'm paying for.

We recently wrote to you, advising that your broadband router will no longer be able to receive further software and security updates. As promised, we're now getting in touch again with an update on the options available to you.

If you're still happy with the performance of your current device, you can continue to use this, in which case there's nothing further you need to do.

If you want to update to the latest device to get the best from your broadband service, you can do so by clicking the link below. The cost of a new Wi-Fi Hub is £80, which would be added to your next bill*. To purchase a new router click below, and we'll process this order for you.

Click here to order a new router

Even though devices will no longer be able to receive further software and security updates, we continually monitor the security and performance of all devices – so you can keep using your current equipment. For more information, click here.
