Speed Checker

The speed checker is currently registering 21Mbps to my router and 37Mbps to my device. Engineer test yesterday when fixed a real issue (we think faulty filter) was registering 40Mbps to my router when I got the same readings above. You might want to sort out your speed checker or you will get a lot of trips to fix slow speeds that are not really slow!

I can't run a hard wired test as I do not have a laptop only two pc's. When the engineer ran hard wired tests he was getting, in round terms, 40Mbps into the system and similar figures to those to my device when checking the wifi signal. From the top picture we can see that it is currently measuring 37.6Mbps and 5.8Mbps and from the bottom picture that my device is receiving 37Mbps and 5Mbps. Assuming that it cannot speed up between the router and my device then 21Mbps in the bottom picture must be a system glitch?

From my perspective I am very happy with the new performance I am getting and just letting you know that this problem exists because you may be unaware of it and it may cause issues that do not actually exist!

Morning,

Thanks for confirming. The sync speed does look very consistent and we usually expect to see throughput speeds of around 80% of the sync speed. 21mbs does seem a little low. What speeds are you seeing if you run a wired speed test please?

Thanks

Yes, I'd seen that tip on the community and tried it but it made no difference in this instance. The only thing the engineer did to my knowledge was replace the original filter with an automatic filter on the 5C connection point. In fact I've noticed that the actual speed check seems to give an accurate figure but it is the summary screen at the end of the speed test that gives the wrong information. I've attached a new file so you can see. The only reason for raising it is in case you have a bug in your system that causes the wrong information to be displayed.

Hi Dave,

Can I just check, did you try the 30 minute router power down as this can often improve the throughput speeds?

Thanks

I'm all good thanks Chris. Just concerned there was an issue with the speed checker as the speeds to my device are higher than to the router (see attached file)! As you say I am getting basically 40Mbps but the speed checker consistently logs 21Mbps. The router went on and off a few times while the engineer was here but the speed test just showed 21 when we were experiencing 40. I just thought someone at talk talk should be aware in case there is something needs correcting with the speed checker. I will leave it with you and if it is of interest to talk talk you can follow it up.

Thanks. You current sync speed is 39.9Mbps. If your throughput speeds are still low can you switch your router off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes, then switch back on and retest. Please let us know how you get on
