Static Route Visibility Issue on DG8041W Router

Hi TalkTalk Support,
 

I'm using the DG8041W router for my home network, which runs on the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet (with the router at 192.168.1.10). I also have a Cisco network set up on a different subnet (10.0.0.0), and I'm trying to get both networks to communicate.

 

I added a static route on my TalkTalk router to send traffic for the 10.0.0.0 subnet to 192.168.1.11 (an interface on my Cisco router). However, I can’t see this static route in the routing table on the router’s configuration page.

 

I can route from my Cisco network to my TalkTalk network without any issues, but I can't get traffic to go the other way. I've checked, and there are no access control lists (ACLs) on the Cisco side that would be affecting this communication.

 

Can you help me understand why I can't see this static route? Is there a specific way I need to set it up, or is there a limitation with the DG8041W router that could be causing this issue?

The firewall should be left at TalkTalk. With the other protocols, have you analysed this with Wireshark? I can do this for you if you want.

Hi Keith,

 

As I mentioned earlier, I can route traffic to the TT network just fine when connected to the Cisco 10.x.x.x network. I do have a route set up on the Cisco router to allow this.

 

However, I have managed to discover that I can now ping traffic and devices in my Cisco 10 network when connected to my TT network, which is a great step forward. But this is all I can achieve—I've tried multiple different protocols and web links to my devices in the 10.x network, and only pinging the devices is successful.

 

I have noticed that the firewall setting on my TT router is set to "TalkTalk."...

 

Do you think selecting the "High" option might make any difference here, or would it have no effect?

 

Are there any other firewall settings on the TT router that I could try adjusting to allow more protocols through?

 

If not, would this be a limitation of the TT router itself?

Hi @MrCryoDrone 

 

You have said that you have put a static route to your network 10, Cisco network in the DG8041W. However, have you put one back from the Cisco to the DG8041W, as it will never work without it?
