Using VPN to connect to an office network

I have been working from home without any problems then 1 day when I tried to use the VPN to connect to the office network I get the following error message.

The vpn connection between your computer and your vpn server could not be completed. The most common cause for the failure is that a least one Internet device (for example a firewall or router) btween your computer and the VPn Server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation(GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists contact your network administrator ot Internet service provider

I know my laptop and vpn and office network are fine as my laptop will connect to the office network from a colleagues house , he is with bt. I have spent over 3 hours on a chat and not got anywhere

Thank you for updating your Community Profile.

I will need to make a change to your router firmware. Will it be ok if I do this now?

We advise to leave the router switched on without being rebooted whilst we update the FW. This should take no longer than 15 minutes to update.
