Can anyone tell me how long I can access emails after cancelling broadband. Thank you

My sincere condolences for your loss.
Always a difficult time after the passing of a loved one. If your dad shared the email password with you then all you can do is keep an eye on the incoming mail for as long as the mailbox is active.
If anything does need sorting out legally then no organisation will require you to use the email address. The UK Data Protection laws do not permit an email account of a deceased person to be used by anyone else. Not even a direct family member or the executor or an estate.
Did you cancel via the TalkTalk bereavement team? That's the best way. The bereavement team would handle the closing of the account and email service. You'll obviously not receive an invitation to subscribe to MailPlus as this would not be appropriate as regards Data Protection.

My concern is that I cancelled my Dad's broadband account as he passed away in December and I just wanted to keep a check on his emails incase anything needed sorting out.

When you leave TalkTalk Broadband you would normally receive an invitation from TalkTalk with the offer to retain full access for your mailboxes via a TalkTalk MailPlus subscription. When you go to subscribe the system will check the eligibility of a mailbox after you enter its email address and password. You'll not be permitted to subscribe if the customer MyAccount that is linked to the email address is still active.
If you're OK with webmail only access for two years, subscribe to MailPlus on the monthly option (£5 per month) and then call TalkTalk to cancel the subscription. You'll have access via webmail only for two more years.
If you choose not to subscribe to TalkTalk MailPlus then your email address / mailbox would get flagged for deletion and could then be deleted after 6 months or so. You'd normally get an email prior to deletion.
