Back from two week holiday and cannot send email via thunderbird. Check set up all appears fine. Get error message- timed out. As email unused for sending during two week break presume talktalk updated something.

Hello Ady
Delete email account restarted working now. But all sub folders deleted as well, not what I had hoped for.
For complete novice like myself an idiots guide would have been useful

No you don't delete the mail file just the account. All your doing really is kick starting the mail account in the client.

Hello Ady
does this mean I will lose my subfolders under that mail account? If so how can I save then?

Hi fredo2, if you haven't already try removing the mail account, restarting the device and then adding the mailbox again before another restart and that should sort it. Be sure to use the correct email setting from the email settings help article.
