Do Not Have Mailbox Manager When Logging Into Mail App

Hi, I wanted to change the password associated with one of my TT email addresses, as it has been found in a dark web scan by my security software. I used to be able to login to My Account, and add/change/delete email addresses, but that option no longer exists. I found an article which said I should login to TT mail, and find Mailbox Manager and change the password there. However I cannot see Mailbox Manager when I login, as apparently I don't have admin privileges.

So, can anyone explain why I cannot change my own password using Mailbox Manager? It's my account, so I don't know why I don't have admin rights. It's an old Pipex domain, but I don't think that should make any difference.

Also, is using the Forgotten Password link another option I can use instead of Mailbox Manager? I don't want to try something and then find it doesn't work, and I end up losing access to my email account, hence contacting the community before I do anything.

Any help/advice much appreciated. Many thanks!

Hi, @Windy57

Which one was set many years ago? The pipex.com email address, or the alias of that address.

I assume it was the pipex.com address that was set many years ago, and not its alias. Or did the TalkTalk 'Mailbox Manager' work it out that you already had an alias allocated to the pipex..com email address?

Before the current 'Mailbox Manager', I couldn't set an alias, even if I wanted to.

Yes. I've done the test.

An alias can only be set/deleted via the current 'Mailbox Manager'

If an alias is set, it can be used as the username to login via webmail to its linked real TalkTalk email address.

It can't be used, to login to 'Mailbox Manager'. Only real TalkTalk email addresses can be used to login to 'Mailbox Manager'

I think it is impossible to set an own password to a TalkTalk alias email address. It will use the password allocated to the corresponding real email address.

An alias just fools people reading the headers of emails received

and so fools people to whom emails are sent.

So, a sender, using an alias, can benefit.

(You must be aware of the spamming/phishing issue, I think aliases must be a large contributor.)

EDIT: You said: 'Anyway, my original email address and this alias do have different passwords'

I don't think that's possible with a TalkTalk email address alias, unless yours is something else.

If those 2, the original and the alias belong together, i.e. the one was created as the alias of the other,

then to change the password of the alias, you must change the password of the original, and the password of the alias will follow automatically, and be the same as that of the original, obviously.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I am not a fan of aliases either, but this one was set up many, many years ago. I am gradually moving all of my logins, etc. away from this alias to another email address, but as you can imagine, I have accumulated lots of them over the years and it's a slow process.

Anyway, my original email address and this alias do have different passwords, for example, if I login to webmail. I just want to change the password for the email alias to afford it some protection after being found on the dark web, and give me more time to move my remaining logins from this to my preferred email address.

As I don't seem to have an option to change the password within Mailbox Manager, is my only other option to use the Forgotten Password link when trying to login to webmail?

I can't see any other way of doing it, so any advice would help.

Also, thank you for helping me with my login for Mailbox Manager, I think it is a useful tool and I will be tidying up some of my other email addresses.

Many thanks.

Hi @Windy57

As far as I can tell, an alias email address in TalkTalk, means exactly the same as the original email address to which it is an alias to.

So, I would assume, that the original email address and any aliases to it, would use the same password. (I haven't tested that). All emails sent and received end up in the same original email address.

On the other hand, I am not a friend of aliases. To me they represent pretending. impersonation, impostoring, scamming.

But if you just want to use it once, in order not to use the pipex address, then maybe it's OK.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply, it has helped. I have managed to login to Mailbox Manager using the original email address I was given by Pipex many years ago. I set up an email alias for that address, which is the address I now want to change the password for.

I can see all of my email addresses, and they all have Admin rights, apart from the email alias.

When I click on the email address which I have used to login to Mailbox Manager, there is an option to manage aliases. If I click on that, there is an option to add a new alias, or delete my existing aliases. There doesn't seem to be an option to change the password for the alias that I am using. Am I correct?

Thanks again for your help so far.

Hi @Windy57

Logging in to 'MyAccount' and logging in to 'Mailbox Manager' are two different things.

Which of the 2, can't you log in to?

In Mailbox manager you can do things with you TalkTalk email address/es only.

Do you have more than one TalkTalk email address?

Do you log in to 'MyAccount' with a TalkTalk email address or a non-TalkTalk one?

EDIT: the web address that @ferguson gave above, will lead you to  the TalkTalk 'Mailbox Manager'

You said that the TT email address, that has been found in a dark web scan, won't allow you to login to 'Mailbox Manager'.

But, as you have more than one TT email address, try each of the other TT email addresses.

At least one, should let you in.

Hi, no I cannot login to my account using that link. It doesn't let me login using the email address/password that I use to manage My Account. It also doesn't let me login using the email address/password of the account who's password I want to change. I can only login here:

https://apps.talktalk.co.uk/appsuite/

Thanks!

@Windy57, are you still a broadband customer with Talktalk or are you using Mailplus?

It will help staff check the situation for you if you complete your community forum profile details by going via your avatar; settings; add the Talktalk phone number or account number in Personal Information.

Add the particular email address in Private Notes, towards the end of that section. SAVE CHANGES.

Your post is in a queue for attention.
