Email Client Access No Longer Works

I'd been successfully operating my talktalk.net email using Outlook 365 until the morning of 21st April when it stopped working with a login failure. It's still failing today.

Initially I assumed it was an Outlook issue but then downloaded a copy of Thunderbird to check and found it fails the same way.

My webmail still works, although it's not great to use.

I'm using the recommended IMAP settings from this page:  Email settings | SMTP, IMAP & POP3 | TalkTalk Help & Support so I hope that page is up-to-date.

I've already had some long conversations with support but all at a fairly superficial level so would appreciate a closer look at my account to see what might be stopping me using Outlook/Thunderbird to access my email.

Thanks

Hi, @Billx,

I've looked at those settings a lot, but perhaps I just can't see something blindingly obvious.

Obviously it's also possible that I've mistyped my password many times over, but I've had to enter the same one for my working webmail, so I'm confident that I'd have managed to get it right at least once by now. And yet I still get a login error.

Attached is a screenshot of my Thunderbird settings, with my email address edited out (hopefully). I think they look OK but perhaps I've missed something?

Hi, @RigaMortice

Since you can receive and send normally in TalkTalk webmail, regarding Thunderbird, the issue would be within the settings in Thunderbird, in Account settings. Use the same email address and password that you use in TalkTalk webmail.

The correct settings in Thunderbird are:

Incoming Server settings, at the top, at 'Server Settings'
Server Name: mail.talktalk.net
User Name: your full @ talktalk.net email address
Port: 993
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authenticayion Method: Normal Password

Outgoing Server settings, at the bottom, at 'Outgoing Server'
Server Name: smtp.talktalk.net
Port: 587
Connection Security: StartTLS
Authentication Method: Normal Password
Username: your full @ talktalk.net email address

I won't comment on Outlook, there are too many versions.

Bill
