Email not receiving

Hi,  I've not received any emails (tiscali) via Outlook on my laptop since last Sunday.

My wife has a disclaimer a/c and is receiving them OK via the same outlook service on my laptop.

I'm also getting numerous error messages on my Android phone when checking emails and I've has to reset my password several times.

Error message pic attached.

Any ideas how to fix?

Hi Brendan100, are you able to send and receive normally using TalkTalk webmail? Are you using the approved email settings as shown in Email Settings help article?

I should have also said that both are acceptable for TT email servres. It sounds as though you are using Gmail to poll your emails from the TT servers.

An email client is one that is a specific program that resides on your computer and can bring you emails down and store them locally on your own computer. examples are the one I have been using, Eudora, or Outlook, or Thunderbird. There are many more..

Webmail is when you log onto their mail servre and your account through a web program such as firefox,  or microsoft edge or safari if you use apply.

In your case Gmail is a webmail client and your emails would be on the google servers all the time, but you can get third party 'Gmail clients' that will bring the emails down to your device.

Outlook would be a client and can download your emails to your device.

I should say that clients can be configured to either wipe the emails from the email servers or leave then on there. It is up to yourself to decide.

Thanks Glyderman.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a 'client' and what does it do?

On my laptop I use Outlook

On my phone I use Gmail

Both have my tiscali/talk talk server settings

I'd have thought that both of those would be 'acceptable?

Same problem here for last 2 weeks. It varies between not being able to send or not being able to receive. Some days I cannot send only by using webmail. It may last for a few days then back to normal. Like you I have tiscali accounts but also talktalk accounts

I have been doing research on this.

I am using an ancient email client, Eudora 7.1. Last update was 2005. I found a thread yesterday from March 2023 that mentions that TalkTalk has changed it security protocols.

It was still allowing people with older clients, including win mail, to send, but if they continued  to do so with out upgrading to a client prefered by TalkTalk, then they would start to block the customer from sending emails.

Apparently they did email people about this but I never received one. In extreme cases they may block receiving as well.

They were forcing people to use webmail untill they have upgraded their client. Apparently the moderator of the forum who was a talktalk emplyee, said that after you upgrade your client you would have to contact customer support to tell them what you are using and your settings in order to be unblocked from sending emails through your new client.

I am now in the process of migrating to Thunderbird, but have found that this also has problems. Yesterday it was ok to send , but  now it isn't. So there seems to be a problem woth TalkTalk servers and not after all that they were just blokcing me because I am using Eudora.
