Emails not working

I am being told that emails sent to me are being bounced back, with no reason given.  I have looked at the email accounts and there is a warning triangle that says there is in an error and to click for detail. When i click it just takes me to the settings page which appears to have the correct detail recorded.  I don't know what to do next.  It is worrying that this is happening,  as the world only communicates on line these days I have no idea how many important emails I am missing. Any ideas?  All help appreciated.
