Hi

From yesterday I have been unable to  receive emails but I am able to send them.
The message I get is ‘Account error Tiscali. Cannot get mail. No password provided for tiscali.. Please go to mail account settings and enter a password’. When I do this nothing changes. I have contacted technical support and as I can access my emails via TalkTalk webmail they said it wasn’t a problem with the server.
I have updated my IOS software but I still can’t receive emails.
I don’t know what else to do, any suggestions ?

Thank you

If you're using any other POP3 email accounts then to see emails on other devices the requirement is to set the POP3 email account to 'Never delete from the server'. That will mean the Inbox emails are available for other device to see.

I gave the iPad settings previously for the, then current, POP3 email account. If you wish to set up an IMAP email account that sees the entire mailbox folders then the settings are in the table below:

iPad IMAP app settings are:

Account Type  IMAP
Username Full Tiscali email address
Password Tiscali email password
Incoming mail server host name mail.talktalk.net
Incoming Port (IMAP) 993
Incoming Connection Security Use SSL ON
Outgoing mail server host name smtp.talktalk.net
Outgoing Port 587
Outgoing Connection Security Use SSL ON
Outgoing Authentication Required Yes
Authentication Password

Hi Gondola and Ady

Please could you tell me what my iPad tiscali mail settings should be?  I deleted the account and I currently can’t receive emails. My phone settings are fine.

Thank you

Hi ACMills, I've added your mailbox to the list of those to be restored to full function.

The reason you'll not be able to change the port number is that the email account is set up as a POP3 email account so that requires a slight difference in the setup - port 995 and using the mail.talktalk.net incoming server host name.

You have two options:

  1. Delete the POP3 email account on the iPad and set up an IMAP email account as per the TalkTalk recommendations
  2. Revise the iPad server settings as per the table below

NB The email app will not authenticate a connection until TalkTalk do restore IMAP/POP3 access.

iPad POP3 app settings are:

Account Type  POP3
Username Full Tiscali email address
Password Tiscali email password
Incoming mail server host name mail.talktalk.net
Incoming Port (POP3) 995
Incoming Connection Security Use SSL ON
Outgoing mail server host name smtp.talktalk.net
Outgoing Port 587
Outgoing Connection Security Use SSL ON
Outgoing Authentication Required Yes
Authentication Password

Both devices are capable of secure mail.

I'll provide guides below. Just follow the steps to Check your settings on each device.

If you need confirmation then take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of your email address and then upload here using the picture icon above this Reply area.

Yes I did but I wasn’t sure what to do, I’m not very techy. I access my emails via my iPhone and iPad.

I have IOS 16.3.1.

Thank you

Did you receive the message from TalkTalk advising "Our records show that you are still accessing your email using unencrypted email settings, because of this, from 17th February you will no longer be able to receive or send emails via this email app or software".

What device are you using for your emails? iPhone or iPad?

What model and what version is the iOS operating system software?
