Ask us about your TalkTalk email account and Webmail.

I would appreciate some help with my email set-up so that I can send emails again, which, up until a couple of weeks ago, was working fine. I am still able to receive emails (I use the Apple Mac email app) but now no longer able to send them.
I have a @callnetuk.com email address, which I can also access via plus net webmail.
I assume that my email send issue relates to the stopping of the use of host smpt.tiscali.co.uk port 25.
I have two mail boxes set up in my TalkTalk mailbox. a @Tiscali.co.uk and a @talktalk.net
I can login to talktalk.net via webmail but not tiscali.co.uk, which says the password is incorrect.
When following the link, ‘Forgotten your password?’ to reset the tiscali password it fails with, ‘The email address entered does not have a TalkTalk domain.’ I suppose this may be a separate issue.
Having read through some of the earlier posts with similar send email problems, I have tried a number of the recommended Outgoing smtp configurations with out success.
see attached one configuration I've tried.
Thanks in advance,
JP

The plusnet outgoing server is relay.plus.net
So far, I've not seen any references to callnetuk.com so it's not entirely clear what the recommended server settings are.
A quick check shows me that:
relay.force9.net responds with avasout-ptp-003 smtp relay.force9.net
relay.plus.net responds with avasout-peh-001 smtp relay.plus.net
smtp.callnetuk.com responds with avasout-peh-001 smtp smtp-proxy.plus.net
Different last two octets on the IP addresses but plus.net and callnetuk.com looks to be the same server
So I guess you ought to be able to use:
Incoming: mail.callnetuk.com
Outgoing: smtp.callnetuk.com

Thanks Gondola,
Yes, I can login to plusnet email, which is a good thing!
I had no luck setting the outgoing server to force9 so I will try the Plusnet community and see what they come back with.
I appreciate the time you given in trying to help with this.

Jp

I would say the checks indicate that the tiscali email address and mailbox have been deleted. TalkTalk are now blocking port 25 which is why unauthenticated mail cannot be sent. This isn't just because the tiscali address is deleted it's because it's now not possible to send outgoing mail that isn't authenticated with the Username and password for the sending email address. TalkTalk does not authenticate non TalkTalk domains.
I assume you can login to Plusnet webmail here?
Callnetuk.com seems to reference the force9.net host name servers and imap.force9.net is an alternative name listed on the security certificate for mail.plus.net so you'd use the plusnet mail servers for force9.net and the following setup.
Incoming IMAP server:
Host name: imap.force9.net
Port: 143
Security: None
Require sign in: Yes with Username* (normally the full callnetuk.com email address and password)
Outgoing SMTP server:
Host name: relay.force9.net
Port: 587
Security: None
Require sign in: Yes with Username* (normally the full callnetuk.com email address and password)
* The Username is the same as you use to sign in to Plusnet webmail.
EDIT - Just to add that these settings came from the Plusnet website. I don't know why they're not or were not mandating secure settings. But the fact that there is a security certificate for plus.net / force9.net does suggest that secure settings are possible. There doesn't appear to be any reference to callnetuk.com settings per se but I see that your email client was set up for mail.callnetuk.com for the incoming server so that obviously works as well.

Hi Gondola,
Ok, I have worked through sending an email and checking the address via verifalia and it seems the address no longer exists.
Sending an email to the address results in, "Message could not be sent. Error message from e-mail transport server: 453 - 453 4.1.1 hEftpaQClecIN Recipient Invalid (TT503)"
Verifalia says, "Undeliverable", Invalid email address.
So if the address no longer exists, is that the reason I can no longer send @callnetuk.com emails with smtp.tiscali.co.uk port: 25?
Thanks,
JP

thank you for your advice, Gondola.
I will work through what you have suggested tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

As you know, callnetuk.com is a BT owned domain that's managed by Plusnet. You'll need to use the email servers provided for callnetuk.com not the TalkTalk mail servers.
There was an issue this afternoon with the TalkTalk DNS Name Servers and you may have had a 'no domain' response because of that issue.
But there are three things to do to check if the tiscali email address is linked to an active mailbox. Mailboxes are flagged for deletion if the user doesn't sign in at least once every 180 days. The help page Deleted Email error message explains more.
So first you'd check if the email address is still active. Send the email address a mail message and see if you get an immediate bounceback error message saying 'Undeliverable' that means the mailbox isn't active.
Then enter the email address at Verifalia, an external website that verifies if an email address exists. Enter the email address, complete the reCAPTCHA and select the Validate button. Does the top line response say 'Deliverable' or something else?
Finally, use the Reset password now button in the Help page Changing your email password to see if you get a deleted or no domain error message or if you actually do have password recovery options saved.
Let us know the outcome in each case.
