You're right that none of the Office 2010 products are supported and all have various unpatched vulnerabilities.

I also use LibreOffice and I find that although not totally identical in all operations the LibreOffice product is a very effective solution and works with Office files.

Good to know you're back in action with Thunderbird.

Thunderbird : POP3 setup for tiscali.co.uk

The only difference is the port number. But you cannot convert an IMAP account to POP3. You need to delete the IMAP account and start the setup afresh. You'll also need to set the POP3 account up to Never delete from the server assuming you want to keep those 71 mail messages available in the online Inbox.

Bear in mind that if you have downloaded 2000 mail messages to a POP3 account on a device and then that POP3 account has deleted mail from the online server the mail messages will be in the Inbox of your device software, not on the mail server. A fundamental difference in the way that POP3 and IMAP accounts work. An IMAP account sees what's in the online mailbox. A POP3 account downloads only from the online Inbox and by default deletes downloaded mail, either immediately or after a user defined time, and stores downloaded mail locally.

Hi Gondola I managed to set up an IMAP account but i wanted a pop3 account as this account only shows 71 email messages my pop3 account has over 2000 in it . I Tried setting it up as a pop3 account using the correct settings but it would not have it

If you were to setup a new email account in Thunderbird using the Manual setup process these are the settings you need to proceed with. You'll find that Thunderbird automatically sets up some settings imperfectly so the following will need to be checked and manually corrected:

  • Hostnames and Connection Security for the Incoming and Outgoing Servers
  • Port for the Incoming Server: 993 (for IMAP secure) 995 (for POP3 secure)
  • Username for both Incoming and Outgoing servers must be your full Tiscali email address with authentication by Normal password

Thunderbird : IMAP

When you receive or send mail remember to tick the save password box.

TalkTalk does not support Windows Live Mail (WLM). The product is deprecated, not secure and presents a security risk to your mail messages and your password that can be intercepted and read. TalkTalk no longer permits the use of insecure mail messages that are not encrypted by the STARTTLS command that invokes TLS 1.2 encryption.

If you have Windows 10 then you have access to Windows Mail on Windows 10 that is secure. You could also download and use a secure email client like Thunderbird or BlueMail for example.

Let us know which alternative email software of your choice you will use in place of WLM.
