Full Fibre with two landlines

I am thinking of upgrading to fill fibre. At the moment my router is in the front room. My landline is in the kitchen  and a second handset with an answer machine is in the bedroom upstairs. Can I continue with this arrangement with full fibre? If so , how?

@KeithFrench, Talktalk does provide them, but it sounds as though these just go with the Hub2, so that would limit your ambitions for speed a bit, @Weevie.

We have mentioned this in one of your earlier threads in recent months.

It's better if you follow up there as you have rather hijacked someone else's thread.

When I upgraded, I was just told to keep a charged-up mobile handy, no battery backup at all.

@KeithFrench

The UPS/Backup supply would be ones supplied by TalkTalk -  To allow the continued use of an emergency phone, during any power blackout - for disabled customers.

I have no idea which router I would be supplied with.....

Access to emergency services in a power cut

Any provider of a voice communications service must make sure that customers have uninterrupted access to emergency organisations. For more detail, see General Condition A3.2(b).

Ofcom has published guidance on how we expect providers to meet this requirement when there is a power cut. The guidance has four main principles, namely that providers should:

  1. take steps to communicate effectively with customers;
  2. identify customers’ needs;
  3. have a solution in place to enable access to the emergency organisations for at least one hour; and
  4. have a process to make sure customers who move to a new house or whose circumstances change in some other way, are aware of the risk and protection solution available.

Providers should offer this solution free-of-charge to customers who depend on their landline to call emergency services during a power cut.

What router would you be getting. A Hub2 or 3 (both include Digital Voice) only needs one power point, plus the ONT needs power. Your cordless phone system will need one as well. If you have the eero, you can add one more to the list, as there will be the Grandstream ATA for Digital Voice.

Is this a UPS of your own, if so one for that & it depends on how many of the above devices it can power.

@KeithFrench

So how many power outlets do you need if you are getting voice installed along with full fibre and a UPS (battery back up) ?

Hi @Don9999

Yes. When you order Full Fibre make sure that you order it with Digital Voice.

This will (depending on the supplied router) either give you a separate box called a Grandstream DVA, which has a standard landline phone socket on it or a router with the landline phone socket built into it. Think of that as your new master socket. The easiest way to get what you want is to use an ordinary DECT cordless phone system with two handsets & an answering machine if required. Then just connect the basestation to the router's Phone socket rather than your current phone socket.
