New Router

My router is usually around 18-25ms however ping spikes occur anywhere from 100-1,000ms randomly at any time of the day. My internet is delivered to my PC through ethernet, it should not be this unreliable. I think the router is bugged. If anyone could help me sort this out, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you are doing something like:-
ping 192.168.1.1
Then you have most likely a problem with the Ethernet card on your PC, the Ethernet cable or a faulty router. Have you tried replacing the Ethernet cable?
I have also seen security software causing this, what ones are you using?
