Hi,

Please could you turn off wifi optimisation on my line/router FAST 5464 please.

Since the recent firmware upgrade from SG4K100174 to SG4K100206 optimisation on the 5 GHz band now results in moving to higher channels than before. These are incompatible with older tablets such as my Huawei Mediapad M5 Lite. Recent channels 56 and 112 in spite of the channel settings on the router being In the range 36 to 48. Wifi optimisation before was an anoyance now its a show stopper.

Thanks

Jim

Hi HonestJim

No problem and apologies again that we couldn't switch off WIFI optimisation.

Thanks

Hi Keith & Debbie,

Thanks for the quick replies. Shame Wi-Fi optimisation can’t be disabled. Makes the ‘Auto’ option in the Hub’s channel selection somewhat redundant. Case closed.

Thanks again.

Jim

Hi @HonestJim

@Debbie-TalkTalk has asked me to help you. There is nothing that was introduced in firmware V206 that will negatively impact on WiFi reception from V174. Most likely the levels of WiFi interference around you just happened to increase. I have done a number of investigations where WiFi optimisation would seem to be the cause, when often the level of WiFi interference is too great for this optimisation to be effective. However, I treat each case individually and provide impartial analysis.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to you to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

Keith
