A few days ago I received the above in an email message.

Is this TalkTalk’s way of negotiating a new contract?

It really doesn’t seem very competitive for “Fibre 65” in the current marketplace, is there some negotiation or do I go elsewhere?

Since Patch Tuesday in March, I have had both my PC and my laptop become irreparable and I’m reduce to an iPad and phone, so im finding it difficult to use the internet at present, even looking for replacement machines!

@Gliwmaeden2 blimey!you’re up late 😃.

I tried to reply from my phone at the time but the website seemed to be in reverse order (last post at the top) my addled brain couldn't cope!

I will give them a call when I can find a quiet moment and see what they’re prepared to do for me.

Thanks for your information; really helpful.

I’ll checkout the links before hand.

Can't understand TT setting the community adrift, maybe that is a measure of our value to them!

Regarding HG635 and updates, the did email me but i like the usb socket for sharing files over the LAN despite all the cautions due to Samba being a security risk.

Not really sure why i want to cling on to the landline, only my Luddite cousin calls me on it, …apart from the scammers of course!

As for the PVR, I suppose it’s time I bought a new one, if they are still produced that is!🙄

@Steamywee, your HG635 can no longer receive firmware updates.

You would have received an email about this around a year ago.

You shouldn't be charged for a replacement if you renew your contract, but check whether they charge postage.

The Hub2 and Hub3 should work with both FTTC and FTTP.

Not all renewals are FTTP as it's not available everywhere.

You should really check that FTTC is still available in your location, but bear in mind that, unless there's another revision, copper landlines are supposed to be gone in January next year. So ultimately FTTP is inevitable, regardless of provider.

Check with an agent whether VOIP is included in the price for FTTP - sometimes it has been (particularly for the higher speed packages) and at other times Talktalk has mentioned a £2 monthly charge (before calls / boost deals).

Your TV set is independent of anything to do with Talktalk, so it shouldn't be an issue if you change providers - your box [provided by Talktalk] might have to be returned if it's a recent model.

@Gliwmaeden2  Thanks for that information, I’ve been out of contract for over a year now I think, and I’ve had a problem with my router which for a couple of  days threw its toys out of the pram!

eventually settled but as its an old HG635 I was told it would cost me for a replacement.

since I'm on Fibre 65, its FTTC an as I understand it, the current packages are FTTP, a new router would be provided included in the package, hence me still using the Huawei router.

I’m a bit confused about two things.

Will quotes include continuation of the landline on POTS and ultimately whenever VOIP.?

Will my, now geriatric TV+ box continue to stagger on under a new deal with an FTTP connection regardless of provider?

I might call them for some prices since what I have now is not worth £32 monthly.

@Steamywee, this is "in keeping" with Ofcom's directive to set a specific price increase instead of the CPI + 3.7 % (some companies chose 3.9%) that had been happening in recent years.

It's one of those campaigns, supposedly in the customer's interest, that's backfired as these April increases have proved to be way above what was normal (even in high inflation years) under the previous system.

However, it has been publicised by Talktalk since at least February:

https://help-centre.talktalk.co.uk/Billing_and_Payments/Something_else/News_about_our_prices

You should only try to renegotiate your contract if you are within 3 months of the end of your current minimum term, as otherwise you risk having £30 admin charges applied.

At the appropriate time, of course you can use Chat or phone 03451 720088 to negotiate  - usually better than taking something up through My Account or an email offer. There's no staff support on the forum any longer to take this further.
