Recently went live on the 29th of Jan with the FF900 package from FF500 after 18 months. No noticeable differences in speed I’m afraid. In fact I’m averaging around 300/350 mbps on wireless and got better overall speeds on the smaller 500 mbps package. I get told my devices aren’t able to handle up to 900mbps which is understandable on a WiFi connection, however most of the devices we have are fairly new and up to date. We are running three eero pro 6e devices throughout our home. Support says there’s no problem. Full signal throughout the home. No obstacles in the way, all is as it should be. Please advise.

As an example, if the WiFi adapter in your device only supports speeds up to 433Mbps in a perfect wireless environment and the fibre gives 900Mbps, the maximum speed you could ever get to the internet is about 430Mbps.

You need to use either a very high speed WiFi 5 adapter or a WiFi 6 one.

Hi @Julie01

When you have fibre of this sort of speed other areas of speed delays come into effect, most noticeably the device-to-router link speeds. What sort of wireless devices are you using & which WiFi band are they connecting to on the Eero?

Thanks for clearing that up Chris. Appreciate the response. We are certainly not unhappy with the setup, it was just a concern. I agree that perhaps that point should be communicated more effectively to customers so as not to cause confusion about stated internet speeds

All the best

Hi Julie,

I've checked and the speed tests to the Eero are all around 940Mbps so it looks as though the speed is there. As Gliwmaeden2 has pointed out, the 900Mbps package is really about the bandwidth available to all devices in your home rather than the out and out speed to one device. It gives the ability to use multiple devices in a household, at the same time, without experiencing performance issue.

Similar comments have been made elsewhere on the forum and the answer is genuine  - the 900 Mbps helps with bandwidth, so that you can manage to use more devices at once, rather than overall speeds.

I get by on c 14Mbps.... !

It's probably something that needs better communication with the public, and more research by customers as to what it really entails, rather than the customer being lured and dazzled by the promise of faster speeds that individual devices are not going to benefit from.
