I do agree, most people have no idea of this recommendation. However, do not take my word for it, please see these sites:-

I'm would disagree with your statement. They are only not overlapping if you have nobody else using the spectrum. Therefore the channel people select is relative to what other people in the vicinity are using.

Hi @Margaret90
You should never use channel 8, only 1, 6 or 11 are permissible in the 2.4GHz band, as they are the only non-overlapping channels.

FWIW - The Hive Sensors do not work well when your Wifi Channel is set 1 - it is best to move your channel number away from channel 1, I have sent mine to channel 8.
What doesn't help is that I think Talk Talk updates set it back to channel 1. So everything works well for a while and then all the sensors drop offline for no apparent reason.
Also the Wifi Optimisation that may or may not be active tends to revert it back to channel 1.

I had this with another customer last week. It turned out to be a faulty Hive.

Good morning,
I'm sorry to hear this. Which router are you currently using please? (make and model) Did you try rebooting the router?
Thanks
Michelle

Have you tried rebooting the router in case there is an issue there.
Have you tried resetting the Hive Hub?
If everything else is connecting it's more than likely an issue with the Hive.
A few months ago their was another customer with a similar issue, who we suggested posted on the Hive Forum for advice. It turned out the Hive had developed a fault and their customer service helped them.
Sorry we can't be more specific unless there is a fault with the router, but as suggested if other devices connect it's unlikely to be this.
