So after spending over an hour on chat i decided to upgrade to the 500 voip service from the 150 service. everything went smoothly to start i agreed the monthly cost which was more than the cost for new customers, but went with it ! I read the advert on your website for the 500 service which says a new eero 6 + accomodating a 1gb speed. i currently am using the eero 6 which im lead to believe is 500 mbps over wifi. when i asked abouth the new eero 6+ the lady said i was only allowed a new hub 3 which is absolutely useless for me as everything in my home is set up for the eeros. So from my 150 contract i had a eero 6 and a spare eero 6 that the good people in support sent me to help me connect with security devices the service has been flawless over the lasst 12 months ?

 

so my question is ! am i not allowed a few eero 6 + instead of the hub 3 

 

whilst i may be reading this wrong i thought it best to ask you guys whether 1 > a normal eero will work on the 500 voip service and  if not can they be replaced? 2> i would preffer to send the hub back to you guys as it wouldnt serve any purpose. Any info would be great to give me an idea of options? thank you for your time

I am currently working through my options regarding which hardware im going to hold onto and which im sending back! at present im not even managing 180 meg down.the only speed thats consistent is the upstream speed. please bare with me on this matter at present im getting over illness and will make the changes when i can.

A quick update on this issue.

 

I have been dealing with a complex WiFi speed issue with @mockingbird43 on her eero network. I think that the eero 6 is possibly not fast enough to handle the upgrade to FF500, where TalkTalk used to supply the eero Pro 6. I am also advising her on the merits of trying her newly supplied Wi-Fi Hub 3 as part of the upgrade.

Hi @mockingbird43 

 

Whilst more testing is currently required to prove where the problem lies, there might be a problem using a pair of eero 6 units on your Full Fibre 500 package.

 

TalkTalk has always supplied the eero Pro 6 for the 500 & 900 packages, not the eero 6, prior to changing their policy and supplying the Wi-Fi Hub 3. One reason is that the eero Pro 6 is tri-band (1 x 2.4GHz and 2 x 5GHz Wi-Fi bands), allowing the backhaul network to maintain a faster speed. The eero 6 would therefore probably need an Ethernet-connected backhaul rather than using wireless, if it is required to only use these slower, dual-band eeros.

Must do that myself as ,I,m only recording 90 odd mbps on PC now. When first connected wired to router I was getting just over 500mbps. PC is going now to the PC Doctor for an overhaul tomorrow 😲🫣

I am sorry, but I have been a bit busy & not been online.

 

Assuming the gateway eero downstairs is not in a cupboard in the hallway, but out in the open, whilst a wired backhaul will give the best results, it is rarely needed unless you live in a much larger property. One thing that must be taken into account when performing an upgrade like yours is that it is not just the eeros that could be to blame for the slow speed; it could be one or more of your devices that can't work at that speed. I am not blaming your devices, as I have no idea what the Wi-Fi specifications of your devices are.


Take the example of some older Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) adapters that might work at speeds up to 433Mbps, when used in a perfect wireless environment, which most homes are not. When an internet speed test is performed, the speed achieved is down to the slowest link in the chain, namely the 433Mbps Wi-Fi adapter. Speed tests in this case might achieve somewhere around 400Mbps or less.

Older Ethernet connections can suffer as well. If a device only supports the 10/100Mbps standard, not the normal 1000Mbps (1Gbps) or even the newer 2.5Gbps available on some desktop PCs, they are likely to only record 100Mbps on a speed test.

 

You mentioned a PC, is this a Windows PC? If so, let's start by investigating this, as Windows does allow the performance to be interrogated much more easily than some other operating systems. Please can you go to the Windows Command Prompt and issue this command:-

 

netsh wlan show interface

 

Then copy & paste the results in a PM to me (to preserve your privacy).

my son said to me having a wired back haul to the first eero will give the full speed of the incoming service!

Hi,

Have that set up myself, had to do it myself because the engineer refused a few years ago. Router is in hall with an ethernet cable running through the brick wall into garage and then another brick wall to dining/kitchen where the PC is sited. 😃

ive even toyed with the idea of getting someone in to fit a wired connection upstairs so runnning a cable from the downstairs eero to the upstairs eero! to cut out any loss between the 2 eeros?

i think the eero speeds whist not terrible seems to be a shame im not getting some where close to 400 meg conection to the downstairs eero ! the eero has a clear view of the whole roof nothing covering it

i have 3 devices upstairs but not all running at the same time one is running on 2.4 ghz all the time and pc and phone uses 5 ghz only never two together

please forgive the late response im in bed with the flu and responding when i can !

 

the main eero is downstairs where the ont is. ithas a clear view of the hallway which is a bungalow with upstairs dormas so from one eero to another is about 15 feet and going through 2 false studded walls 4 inch thick and the eero upstairs is on a cabinet actually against the stdded wall! no electrical interference from anythingh close by !

One other quick question, before things might start to get a bit technical. The device(s) upstairs that are not running as fast as you had hoped, which Wi-Fi band are they connected to, the 2.4 or 5GHz bands?

By the way, @mockingbird43, it is impossible to predict what speeds are predicted or expected through any router or mesh network over Wi-Fi. This is because so much is down to where they are located and the levels of WiFi interference in any given property. If you want to investigate the state of WiFi interference via the eeros (for the time being, stick to one system or the other, don't swap them over), then I can offer a lot of help with this.

Hi @mockingbird43, with the correct speed displayed in the eero app, then your problem is all about Wi-Fi reception.

 

The location of eeros is everything; it is the only chance you have to alter Wi-Fi speeds at all. Please can you describe where both eeros are situated & what is around them in terms of electronic equipment, large metal objects, glass & water tanks, etc?
