Physical Cable vibration rumbling through the house

Hi All,

I appreciate that this is less of a technical issue and more an installation but wanted to get some advice.  We've had FTTP for about 6 months but when the installers connected us to the pole they didn't use the closest (tree in the way they said) and ran it instead about 50-100m to the next pole along.

The issue is that when the wind blows the cable vibrations are extreme to the point that the noise can be heard through out the house.  I've had a roofer confirm there's no issue with felt etc. and I've felt the cable myself and its similar to a rubber band when the wind blows.

The cable itself is fixed to the soffit using a plastic box with a rubber O-ring connecting to the bracket.

Has any one else had this issue? Does anyone have any advice about whether I can get the cable re-installed to the nearest post etc.  It's causing some sleepless nights as the wind picks up into autumn.

thanks

Hi Chris,

How are you getting on? Did you manage to contact the CityFibre Team?

Thanks

Hi Chris,

My colleague has come back to me now and after having a look they have advised that as this is not affecting the service or causing a specific fault (slow speeds/dropping connection) then this would need to be raised to CityFibre directly for investigation. They have advised that if you go to the CityFibre website, at the top it says help and support, there is an option to contact the CityFibre team by phone or Live Chat.

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks. I've raised this over now and I will post back here as soon as I receive an update back. It's possible that the team may also try and contact you directly.

Yes absolutely.

For reference, I think scientifically it's called Aeolian Vibration (at least that's what searches told me).  I think either the line tension needs increasing or re-installing to a closer post to reduce the length of the cable overall.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

Thanks for confirming. It's definitely not something I've come across before. I'll need to raise this to my colleagues to get advice on this, would this be ok?

Thanks

Good morning,

Was your FTTP connection installed by Openreach or CityFibre?

Thanks
