Yale Hub Offline

Yale Alarm Hub suddenly offline since this morning. Having powered off the Yale hub, EERO and ONT for 30 minutes to reset, the Yale hub says offline.

I had this problem when setting up the EERO in Jan/Feb 2024, but changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8, which has been fine ever since, so confused as to the sudden issue today.

The Yale Hub shows as a connected device on the EERO app, with no obvious issue.

Any ideas please?

Good afternoon,

Thank you for the update and we'll check back in with you on Monday. Our Devices Team are also looking into this with eero.

Update

I have tried the 30+ minutes off of all devices (Eero, Openreach, Yale Hub) with zero resolution (as expected) - the bleeping from the Yale Smart Hub continues. I've therefore done a hard reset of the Eero router (holding the reset button on the back until the light turns red).

When the Eero booted up (fresh), I went through the installation process, updated network name and password to the original settings my household uses (so all my existing devices can rejoin the wifi network successfully).

The lingering v7.6.2-130 update (despite the Eero already being on the v7.6.2-130 version) has now disappeared, I've not needed to change the DNS settings at all (now using defaults) and the Yale Hub no longer bleeps and connects without issue.

I would think there has been an Eero update that has caused the issue or an issue that has caused the new update to fail.

12+ hours now without any Yale Home Hub bleeping, so fingers crossed the fix will stick (otherwise I'll play around with the DNS settings again seting them to Google).

I had a little blip last night after changing to cloudfare, I blocked then unblocked the Yale alarm from the eero app.

After I did that it has worked fine since (touch wood).

Hi @Collbaj

Ok, could you create your own topic with a short description of what steps you've tried to resolve this and we can look into this further for you.

Thanks

@Adam16031 i'll try the 30 minutes of everything off once I've tried the Cloudflare DNS of 1.1.1.1 - its a little strange that the update is still pending on my Eero although that might have cleared come up the morning (given the 2am-3am updating might clear things). I've notably got Ring cameras and lights (purchase a number of years after getting the Yale alarm) so when Yale gives out completely I'll likely add the alarm and contacts as well. Notably the Ring wired cameras work better/faster than the wifi only ones (the Eero coverage isn't as good as the previous router in my view in terms of signal strength and distance), however you can always get some cheap 2nd hand Eeros to expand the wifi coverage.

@Mcfcforever thanks for the Cloudflare suggestion, i'll give that a go.

That sounds like a good idea! I'll do that if my Yale Hub goes down again. It's okay at the moment, so I don't want to disturb anything 😂

I have had the same issue today. I seemed to have resolved it by using cloudfare DNS as the primary and the Google DNS as the secondary.

It's been working okay so far.

Hi Sabian,

After my Yale Hub went down a second time, I did the 30 mins power off for Yale, Eero and ONT. With the ONT on, then Eero. I waited for the network to fully initialise, then plugged the Yale back in. At the moment, everything seems to be okay.

Throughout, my Eero also showed the Yale Hub as being connected and online (except when I unplugged it).

When the Eero updated, the Yale hub was not plugged in (I'm not even sure this makes any difference to the update process). My Eero shows v7.6.2-130 and doesn't show any pending updates, so I assume it was successful. Is there a way to roll-back to the past Eero software version and try again?

Like you say, something must have changed with the Eero or Google DNS. I had never noticed previous Eero updates taking place, so this is unusual.

With such a temperamental Yale hub, I've spent much of today considering a Ring alarm system 😂

Let me know how you get on.

I've had exactly the same problem from this morning (Wednesday 16th); there is clearly an issue or update to either Eero or with Google DNS and how it affects the Yale Alarm Hub.

I've tried reverting to the default DNS, then changing back to 8.8.8.8 - this fixed the issue allowing the Yale Hub to come back online, but 15 minutes later the Yale Hub went offline again.

I don't know if its an issue with the DNS or whether the Eero update has changed or affected the Eero secure features; notably this issue with the Yale Alarm Hub would previously occur when the Ad Blocking feature within Eero was enabled (although ad blocking is still disabled).

Strangely the Yale Hub still shows as a connected and active device within the Eero despite the Yale Alarm Hub being offline.

Notably the Eero is constantly showing the following update avaliable which doesn't seem to want to update/process/complete. Every time I run it, it says its complete (without seemingly downloading the update), and then the update outstanding remains within the app.

@Adam16031 have you found a solution yet?

Hi Chris,

Possibly spoke to soon. The Yale Hub has gone offline again. Any ideas this time?

Thanks,

Hi Chris,

No updates to the Yale hub, however I changed the DNS back to default, then back to 8.8.8.8

On doing this, an update to the EERO became available. Having updated the EERO, the Yale Hub now connects with no issue - strange!

Prior to the EERO update, only the Yale Hub was affected, no other devices. Is this something you'd expect to see?

Anyway, all sorted now. Until the next EERO update I guess.

Thanks for your help,

Adam
