I have just renewed my broadband contract and have been sent an eero 6 router. I have spent an hour trying to download the necessary app to my laptop and 45minutes of 'chat' trying to find out how to do so. My understanding is now that this can only be set up with a smartphone and that the app cannot be downloaded to a windows laptop. I do not have a smartphone.
Before I return it - otherwise I'll be charged £50 for not returning the old one - can someone please confirm that I have understood this correctly as it's a neat unit, smaller than my present router, and I would have liked to use it.
I am not technically adept so perhaps I have misunderstood something here.

I would stick with that then and put the rest down to the TalkTalk experience! 🙂

I'm a bit dense about all this and don't follow your response but as my present router works ok I'll just continue to use that rather than trying to replace it which I hadn't requested anyway.

my present router is a black unit with talktalk on bottom front, no brand name that I can see. It works fine and has clearly labelled sockets on the back with one for my landline phone handset - the eero doesn't have one. Like you I do not understand why I was sent it, particularly as it seems wholly unsuitable for my requirements and has resulted in my wasting several hours today trying to sort it out. It was clearly a mistake to renew my contract ! Anyway I'll send it back and keep using the one I have. This whole thing has been totally exhausting and not being able to get help from the website or 'Chat' is very frustrating - thank heavens for the Community.

You say you have just renewed, which router did you have previously and does that still work? I have no idea why they would send a new router for a renewal, let alone an eero which they no longer appear to be supplying generally.

Ask them if they could replace it with the Sagemcom Hub3, @mrf3049 or Hub2 if it's more suitable for your package.
Neither involves using a mobile phone. Ask that they make sure your package is enabled for your Talktalk phone number, and it should work by simply plugging the handset into the phone slot at the back of the router.
