Crackling on landline, broadband totally OK

Hi,

When I pick up the phone the dial tone has a loud crackle, which interestingly seems to go when the call is connected.

After a call the crackle has gone from the dial tone, but comes back after a couple of minutes of non use.

I did run the online line check which came back as no fault, but the crackle is still there over the dial tone.

Broadband download speed is not affected at all, still getting the normal download speed of around 45 Mbps, but upload seems a bit slow at 3 Mbps

Hi Debbie,

I don't know if Openreach has been and sorted it, or it's a coincidence, but upload is currently back to 6 Mbps.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for letting me know.

Hi Qwghlm

The fault has been assigned to a line engineer this morning. We should hopefully have further updates later this afternoon.

Thanks

Debbie

Hi Qwghlm

Hopefully the speed will start to increase again once the fault has been cleared by Openreach.

I will check the connection stats/speed once Openreach close the fault as resolved.

Thanks again.

OK, thanks for the update.

Still at 3 Mbps upload, it starts at 7 Mbps then immediately starts dropping very quickly to 3 Mbps

Hi Qwghlm

I've checked and this fault is still with Openreach, no additional updates at the moment.

I will continue to monitor this 🙂

Thanks

Debbie

Hi Qwghlm

Ahh no problem 🙂

I've passed this over to Openreach now and I will monitor for additional updates.

Thanks again.

Wow, if that is possible, yes please.

I know one of the Openreach guys a few years ago said the wires into our house under the drive are very suspect, only two good ones remaining or something.

Thank you again for helping.

Hi Qwghlm

Thanks for your reply.

I've completed another line test and this is still detecting a potential line fault. Would you like me to raise this back to Openreach to be investigated by a line engineer again?

Thank for getting back to me, the crackle has been eliminated, but the upload is still quite slow at 3 Mbps when I am sure it used to be at least double that.

Not a major concern normally, but it does affect uploads to a website I run for a local group.

Hi Qwghlm

I can see that the connection has remained stable. Is the landline still working ok?

Excellent, thank you very much, much appreciated.

Good morning,

Thanks for the update. I've checked the connection stats now and I can see that the upstream sync speed did drop. It's possible that DLM will increase the speed again now that the fault has been resolved and if the connection remains stable. We'll re-check the connection stats again on Monday to see if DLM has made any changes.

Thanks

Michelle

Upload speeds are not guaranteed, @Qwghlm.

Do you have a record of previous speed tests as these should tell you what was normal for your line?

Phone and internet now back up and running, the crackle seems to have gone.

Would have been nice to have been told I would be losing the phone for an hour or so though.

Just checked upload and it's now 2 Mbps which does appear rather slow.

I remember it being over double that, what is the upload speed supposed to be?

Download still around the 45 Mbps so that's OK.

Hopefully Openreach have been working on the line for the past hour or so, seeing as we've had no phone or internet.

I would have liked to have been given a heads up though because now I don't actually know if they are working on it or not..
