Got up this morning and when I switched the tv on, it came on asking me to complete set up on my talk talk box. Had this box for 9yrs and it's never done this, did as it said as I couldn't get out of it, then there hasn't been any sound since.  I tried to synch the remote again incase this was the problem, but no, the volume line shows and increases but there's no sound.   Have been on the online chat for over 4hrs today and spoke to 6 different people. I was told I would be sent a brand new box out to replace the box, then someone else told me I had to subscribe to tv at £5 a month which I'm not prepared to do. I've been passed from pillar to post and still I'm stuck here with a tv box with no sound. I have been with talk talk for over 30yrs, asked how I go about changing providers and was told whilst I'll be out of contract I would need to pay £67.

I dont have a landline anymore juat broadband and have never paid to watch my tv, but apparently the box i have has been phased out and there is no support to help with it anymore.

I don't think I should now have to pay £5 a month to just watch tv.

Have you checked the hdmi cable is fully in situ as it may have come loose.

Also in the settings try changing the sound output to surround sound as this will boost it to 100%, but disable the volume up / down so you have to use the tv volume to adjust unless you've linked the remote to your tv.

I know I can plug my tv in to watch I wanted to record as I do a lot, I'm thinking of getting the manhatten and then just doing away with talk talk altogether when my contract comes to an end.  I don't have a landline, only use it for broadband and obviously had the tv box but I'm not paying a subscription for it.

I shall try the maintenance reset and hope for the best.  I have everything, just no sound.

Thanks for that, I do have a tv license 😀

I have been looking at the manhatten box so think I'm going to go for that one.

And also to add very few companies offer tv any longer. BT, Virgin and Sky spring to mind, but then you do have to pay subscription charges with them, so a retail box of your own is. probably best to replicate what you have now.

@Debboop1969

Just to add, you are under no compulsion to pay for a new box, nor subscribe to the TalkTalk TV service, such as it is.

I do hope you are paying your TV licence fee though! 🙂

Unfortunately these boxes are at the end of their life.

You can still watch TV by plugging the aerial directly into the TV and returning this.

You could try a maintenance reset by following the instructions here and if the hard drive is recoverable this will work.

If you want a box that records, there is a thread in the lounge that may be of interest.
