I don’t get the usual dial tone when I pick up the hand set, I get a tone similar to an engaged tone. I used the line earlier today and it was fine

I've run a test on the line now which has detected a potential fault. Does your main socket have a test socket please? If it does then please can you test just the phone at the test socket and confirm if the same voice issue is still happening?

Assuming that you are not on Full Fibre with Digital Voice, what happens if you temporarily move the phone with a new filter to the test socket behind the Master Socket's removable faceplate (if you have that design)?
