A few months ago I asked for you guys to check on my phone line as it was just awful... There seemed to be a fault and it improved... until now.
I wish I could send you a recording of the noise on the line.... buzzing, crackling and even a "dial tone" during a call 🙈
Please could you do whatever you did before as initially you said it was all OK but then when you looked into it a bit more there "seemed" to be something which required an engineer to do something either at the exchange or the cabinet outside.
Please can you fix it as it is driving us nuts.... what's weird is that the broadband seems unaffected through all of this?
TIA Steve

So, when the engineer came last Monday and "fixed" it... and now it's broken again.... is this a coincidence? I need an engineer preferably NOT the one that left the mess last Monday to actually arrange a time and knock on my door as opposed to working outside of it...

Please confirm the last 3 digits of your mobile number?

We've run a test on your line which has identified a line fault that requires a supplier escalation to resolve.
Typically these escalations involve an engineer conducting checks on the supplier network, though occasionally they may need to visit your premises. I’ll need to confirm some information with you before I go ahead and arrange the escalation.

Yes, please could you get in touch with Openreach for them to come back and fix the mess they left and fix my line!

Is the issue happening right now?

The buzzing is on the line - the broadband "seems" to be OK at the moment.
When the "engineer" comes back to sort out the mess... they will be able to see and hear what's going on - and then fix it.
I'd like to think they would come back quickly to fix issues (the mess) but I'm beginning to see what goes on.
I just need an engineer to come back ASAP and sort this out!

As the phone shares cabling with the internet, and TV services utilize the internet, we want to establish if the reported problem is the only issue or if multiple services are being impacted.
Are you having issues with your internet/broadband?

The line was clear after the engineer came on Monday but now (again) there is a distinctive buzzing on the line during calls - and even with a dial tone.
I can make calls but the background buzzing is constant.

Thank you, can you tell me what issue you're having with your telephone service, please?
Can't receive calls?
Can't make calls?
Can't make and receive calls?
Dialtone/Silence/Noise Issues (still able to make and/or receive calls)?

No active monitoring.

Great. Just to confirm you stated you do not have any active monitoring for life threatening health reasons which is solely dependent upon your TalkTalk or telephone line?

Yes, I'm at home this morning.

Are you messaging us from home?

Yes, you can try to detect the fault... once again...

Hi there @CaptainNemo We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. I am shocked to hear, they have not made contact with you to address the complaint. I will follow up on the complaint. However as you have stated the fault is back, can we please complete diagnostic checks to detect the fault?
on 11-07-2025 08:19 AM
Re-escalating this for you, @CaptainNemo.

So... after 4 days now, and despite the fact that Openreach have had a complaint because they left my property in a mess they have not contacted me at all...
and to cap it all the buzzing on my line has returned.
I wouldn't be surprised if the engineer who did the work has sabotaged my line at the exchange. It seems like Openreach are a law unto themselves and nobody has any redress with them.
You would think that seeing they left my house in such a mess that someone would get back to me. But no.
I await at some point a message from Openreach but I'm not going to hold my breath about getting my phone line fixed any time soon.
Why do people not do their jobs in this country?
As you might see from this I'm a bit p****ed off...
