New Router and Landline Phone

I had new wiring installed by CityFibre today plus a new router. My phone now plugs into my router. The problem is that this is the phone with my answer phone. I don't want it in the room with my router. I want it downstairs where i will see that I have messages. I believe there is an an adapter that will allow me to have the phone downstairs and allow it to communicate with the router upstairs. I believe that BT supply this to their customers free of charge. Can TalkTalk supply me with an adapter? If not where can I get one and what is it called?

Thank you for your reply. My previous router was upstairs and I probably didn't understand/think enough about the ramifications of the phone having to be beside the router. I'll get used to it. 🙂

That is a shame in your case. Why did CityFibre install the router upstairs, was it at your request? The only real way to get the phone socket to be downstairs is more complex, but still possible. It would, however, require a cable being run between the router & the desired location, unless there is any existing phone cabling already there.

There is another way that you might be able to do this, which could be cheaper than Power Line Adapters and much neater. The restrictions on your electricity wiring would also be non-existent. However, I do need to know the exact router that you have. Is it an eero 6, eero Pro 6 or the Sagemcom Hub 2?

Assuming that you have the eero with the Grandstream DVA you can do what you want, but it may not be easy. What you need to do is run a Cat 6 minimum Ethernet cable from the eero upstairs to the Grandstream DVA that you want by your phone. Alternatively, you might get away with extending the Ethernet via a pair of Power Line Adapters over your electric house wiring. Site one by the router & one by the Grandstream. This will work so long as the two PLAs are on the same electrical ring circuit.

Hi Lesley,

The only adapter that supply is the grandstream digital voice adapter that used with an eero as the eero doesn't have a telephone port. But this wouldn't allow you to use the phone in a different room
