talktalk selling my data

So I had a scam call today pretending to be 'Steve' from BT. Googled the number, absolutely nothing. His line was really bad too.

I have NEVER given my landline number out to ANYTHING. I always say I don't have one. So how the *@#][!![]'#[@#]!* have they gotten my name and number? TalkTalk has clearly sold my data after saying on the phone they have not. When obviously they have?

How can I claim compensation on this because I'm pretty *@#][!![]'#[@#]!* off about it.

This is not something we can answer for you. You originally said that you wanted compensation for them selling your data. It seems like from your last post that TalkTalk has also told you that they have, which is why I asked if you had any proof.

Using phrases like "So yes, they have sold my information" or "I think talk talk have enough of my information to sell", is hardly evidence, is it? If you want compensation you will need to prove that they actually did this.

I think talk talk have enough of my information to sell. I've called them they said they didn't sell my information and they can't explain how they have my name and number when explaining multiple times I don't use the phone.

An 029 number called and asked for me claiming to be 'Steve' from BT, on a really bad crackly line. I googled the number and nothing was found. I have requested to be ex directory and I do not use the phone. So how can they have my name?

Hi @MasonXD

The bottom line is, you would need to be able to prove this, as I said in my previous post, do you have any evidence to this effect?

I'm not on the directory list either.

And as I said in previous post I HAVE NEVER CALLED ANYONE. So why would I need to withhold the number? I get charged for making calls. I have a mobile with unlimited minutes. I'm 26 years old I don't use a landline it's strictly there for the broadband.

So yes, they have sold my information.

I'm not on the directory list either. And as I've said in the previous post I have NEVER called anyone using the phone. and no it's not withheld because I don't need it to be BECAUSE I DONT MAKE CALLS. My name should NOT be tied to my landline except from with talk talk and that is it.

So yes, they have sold my information.

As your signature states you do not work for talk talk so how do you know?

Hi @MasonXD

If you really believe TalkTalk did sell your number, which I have already said they don't, you would need proof that they did. Do you have such evidence?

@MasonXD, if the account is in your name, your number will be connected to your name, regardless of who is picking up the phone.

Unless you have requested to be ex directory, your number will be available on many databases:

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Making-my-landline-ex-directory/ta-p/2205300

Sometimes scammers will try any combination of number as well in the assumption that it exists out there.

I don't use the phone, my mum uses it for incoming calls with my nan ONLY, but the account is in my name and she has a different surname. My name should not be tied to it? No outgoing calls because they charge me because it's not in the package, I have NEVER listed my landline anywhere. Not even in jobs. No one calls outwards.

So yes, they have sold my data.

Despite what you think, TalkTalk does not sell your private data.

It does not mean though that you didn't call some other organisation or person who got your number via the simple Caller Display service available on all ISPs. They might then have shared your number with others. Do you withhold your number in the telephone boosts within your MyAccount?
