For any questions about your TalkTalk mobile service.
Saturday
Hi,
I'm trying to set up Wifi Calling on a Xiaomi phone. I appear to have it sorted, on the phone itself (set as on, in the phone app, carrier check disabled etc). But when I try a test (airplane mode but with wifi back on) I get "Mobile network isn't available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call."
But I'm connected to the network so something else is wrong.
Any ideas? I read about router firmware issues somewhere else on the forum. Could that be it?
Thanks

Morning.
This has gone well.
So I started on this forum, identified on the web as "The place for any questions about your TalkTalk mobile service." I then learn that it isn't, really.
Tried live chat. Described the issue. Was asked if it was a mobile or a technical issue. (Which part of "I can't set up Wifi Calling and, when testing, get the following..." is equivocal?) Transferred to "an expert". Transpired he was from the Billing Department. He transferred me to a mobile expert who needed some info repeated, of course. 45 minutes after starting this, I was informed that TT mobile does not offer Wifi Calling. You can get it with a SIM from another provider, apparently, but not with a TT SIM.
This information is so fundamental that it ought to be readily available. Yet there is at least one other post on this forum where someone asks about TT mobile and Wifi calling.
I hope this info helps others.
My next step, as far as mobile is concerned, is clear. As my broadband contract ends in three weeks, perhaps it's time to leave all of this nonsense behind.
Cheers.

Yes I agree about support, but there are no staff on the forum with the necessary experience do deal with mobiles and it's effectively a separate division of the company.
Worth a call and I hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for trying to help, fr8ys. It's much appreciated.
On another forum (XDA) discussion covering the particular phone model (and leaving aside those comments therein about rooting, magisk and voenabler, none of which I understand) a couple of people resolved the issue by asking Vodafone to enable their account. If Talktalkmobile still uses that network, I was wondering if that might be the solution. (I'm sure this enabling refers to their SIM account, rather than broadband account.)
The only other thing I thought of was the APNs which, again, I don't understand. But perhaps these need to be changed.
In either of the above scenarios, input from TT is needed.
As for the phone, I appear now to have info in the "Phone Setting" bit (accessed via code in dialler) which is identical to that which the people who got it sorted had, after sorting it. (Specifically, that's "Wifi Calling provisioned" greyed-out in the "on" position. The writers said it showed blue...active...before they got it sorted.)
I was hoping that a Talktalk person might help, here, with account enabling or APNs, if none of the other customers have come across this.
I note what you say about mobile support not being available. How odd, to look at the top of the page and read "Mobile Support - For any questions about your Talktalkmobile service". Not everyone will read the pinned comment and will, instead, simply see the page title and current discussions taking place. Perhaps the presentation should be changed to save you and others from having to keep clarifying this.
I may need to speak to someone, although I now feel a dwindling sense of optimism. There are, as yet undiscovered, tribes in the Amazonian Rainforest who know how successful conversations with Customer Support tend to be. But one can only try.
Cheers and thanks again.

It's a while ago now and I can't remember what I was doing wrong, but I had to look again at the Pixel instructions and found what I needed.
TalkTalks instructions are here
https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/About-Wi-Fi-Calling/ta-p/2466099
But you might be better of searching the phones forum to check settings etc.
Once you are sure you have the phone ok, try on someone else's network, (not another TalkTalk one) and if that's ok, then you will need to come back and start another thread under broadband so the router team can look into.
If it does not work on another network, then it's a phone issue.
Please note I'm helping on from my limited experience here and have to point out that help for mobiles is not available on the forum.
Please see the pinned post at the top of the forum for details on how to access mobile support

Thank you.
Hope something here helps.
Saturday
Thanks, fr8ys.
No, I haven't tried another network.
I'm with Talktalkmobile. (If you meant Xiaomi, the manufacturer, then it's quite an old phone but, yes, there are a few comments, from some years ago. But they seemed to be solved, for the posters, via the "disable carrier check" stuff.)
You said you were missing a stage...wonder if I've missed something, too. Was it something straightforward? (I've rebooted, of course. No joy.)

WiFi calling should work whenever you are connected to a WiFi network, not just your home one.
Have you tried on another network to see if you can connect there?
I had issues myself with Lebara and finally found the solution on Google and found I was missings a stage. I also had to reboot my phone to get it to work.
Have you checked your mobile providers site or forum to see if others have had similar issues?
