Netgem 4K box reset problem

Hi

Having a problem with the Netgem 4k box. We had lost the wired ethernet connection so ran a soft reset - pressing the button on the side five times. The problem now is that the reset is stuck in mode because its not able to make an ethernet connection! Can I over-ride the reset process so that the box is operable again?

thanks Ben

Thanks very much for your reply. I suspect this might be a failing box, so if all else fails will contact TalkTalk. The box is currently part hard wired (ethernet) and part power lines. This has worked very well. The failure to connect using the ethernet is very much a new thing. We've rarely had problems, and if it does happen, usually pulling the plug and resetting the box works. But not this time.

I do have wireless connection but it is rather intermittent due to the distance from the router (complicated but at the back of the house for legacy reasons). I establish connection on the TV (Sony) but it cuts out and box doesn't seem to detect the network.

Trying to think how else to connect - short of going and buying a very very long ethernet cable! Should I be able to connect the ethernet cable to the main telephone input to the house, which is nearer?

Silly question, but I presume I need a TV to proceed with the soft reset? I guess there are options to choose.  Otherwise I could connect the box directly to the router in my study in the rear of our property.

thanks

No once started it needs to continue.

Do you have a usb stick for recording plugged in.if so remove this and try again.  I'd switch off from the mains for 30 minutes, then press the button 5 times again.

The box needs an internet connection to complete the set up, but this can be via WiFi or direct via Ethernet to the router or using powerlines.

If you record, then the box is extremely sensitive to fake usb sticks especially those that state a higher capacity than they really are. These have been broken to register on devices as 256gb, when in reality they are 32gb. Best to buy in store from supermarkets or recognised stores, leather than on line or from stores that are not specialist ones.

Of you still have issues after trying again, Unfortunately, support staff are no longer available here and this will require you contact TalkTalk directly as the forum is now peer to peer.
Please see the link in my signature for ways to contact TalkTalk.

From the 29th of March our TalkTalk Community will move to peer-to-peer support and the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry we still have plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link here: How to contact TalkTalk Broadband - Help & Support.
