Hello,

I am not with Talk talk any more but parents are and i help them when needed.

I set up access/passcode so i could deal with support issues and was chatting to support who advised to register an account so i could deal with renewals and keep an eye on things in general.

My parents also got a call from talktalk about renewing, and i questioned my mum to check if genuine, I told her to not speak with anyone and i will deal with it.

Support checked the system and confirmed their was a call, so at least it was legit.

When trying to register it asked for an email to check if already registered, and it is as i am an old customer. How do i proceed to change the account number to manage , will i have to call talk talk to delete mine first.

Support advised that no changes will be made without my knowledge which is good.

Parents are elderly and don't always understand. I don't want them buying addons they don't need

Thanks

Should definitely see a reduction in the bill.

I am still tracking the numbers to who they are which is a bit time consuming but glad i can now do it.

Unfortunately my mum is obsessed with giving to charity which is fine, but i am seeing £8-10 pound calls due to being on hold, and that's before actually giving any money. I have said you need to stop that.

I also advised to hang up before an hour is up, and start again.

Thanks for info

The Anytime Calls UK boost (or whatever they call it these days) will cover 01, 02 AND 03 landlines, @Mr_chic, so should be OK for normal banking numbers. Also for ordinary mobile numbers

She needs to be careful if calling the Isle of Man: it's an 01 number but gets charged. Similarly, avoid the Channel Islands.

Yes, the face value phone calls @ 24p are extortionate. On most websites, they quote about a third less for full price calls, c 16p, as an average, so Talktalk's price is particularly bad. If she uses the landline a lot, the boost will definitely pay its way.

Even the government website suggests that "up to" 16p would be the expected average:

https://www.gov.uk/call-charges

She must not exceed one hour in any one call. She can redial to restart the hour, though, as many times as she likes.

Renewed over the phone.

The Agent had to call my mum to update the email address so that i could access it, then go ahead with the renewal.

I have managed to gain access to the account which was the important part. Was shocked at the call costs.

I tracked the numbers so i know who they are and advised my mum not to call certain ones.

Some cant be helped like banks which are 03 numbers.

I went for the add on for unlimited landline/Mobile calls which should help alot.

It's best to do the renewal via Chat or phone call.

But confirmation will come to the account holder by email, together with contract information.

No shortcuts!

Hi Thanks for reply,

will look at you link.

Always complicated, but i usually get there in the end.

Support couldn't give me any associated email addresses for security reasons which appreciate.

Ideally would of been mine, and apparently an email was sent to my dad which had to be replied to to authorise the renewal.

My mum probably got this wrong, as renewals are confirmed by phone? This is why i questioned the call from talktalk.

I couldn't see any emails to me or my dad.

Thanks

If you are working on their behalf you may need to at least be a nominated user, @Mr_chic.

Information about that:

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Nominated-user/ta-p/2205256

If you are not the account holder, Talktalk will likely need an email address that belongs to them.

All a bit complicated  - but as it's not your account it should not be getting muddled up with your old Talktalk account.

Please wait for staff to reply during the day.
