Good afternoon

I have asked my son to write this question as I am nearly 90 and am unsure on what is happening when the analogue system is switch over / off.

I have a basic broadband package with landline included. I have no mobile phone.

Could somebody please explain in very simple terms what is going to happen in early 2027 and what, if anything I must do or not do to ensure I still have landline facility.

I have always assumed TalkTalk would keep me informed, but I am not aware of any past communications.

Many thanks for any assistance that can be provided.

@MYGARDEN, it depends how important it is for him to do this at a time of your Dad's own choosing.

You sometimes need to check that there's no set up fee or admin charge when upgrading mid contract.

If Talktalk want to do it at a time of their choosing, it's sometimes done as a free upgrade etc.

They will never leave him stranded - they just have to coordinate with engineers etc and it takes time to work around the massive infrastructure upgrade countrywide. They are dependent on the availability of Openreach,  Cityfibre etc and these engineers are also working on contracts with other ISPs.

Research on Talktalk's own pages and pay particular attention to the small print details near the end, but a general AI response gives us:

From the 29th of March our TalkTalk Community will move to peer-to-peer support and the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries. Don’t worry we still have plenty of ways to reach out if you need to speak to TalkTalk directly. For more details check out the link in the post at the top of any forum message board.

@KeithFrench

Hi Keith

Thanks for replying to my dad. I will give the number you mention a call next week. As an aside, would you believe that TalkTalk will contact my dad directly nearer to the time or is it better to get things moving ourselves?

Your current broadband is delivered over your phone line from the exchange or via fibre to the cabinet & copper cables to your house. Switching off the analogue lines will mean that this cabling will not work anymore. You will then need full fibre broadband and your phone line will need to plug into the rear of the router.

You need to speak to TalkTalk to discuss your options. If you do upgrade to full fibre, you must specify at the time of ordering that you need Digital Voice (sometimes called VoIP). It might be best to contact the Better Value Team (old Legacy Dept), please call:-

0345 1725157.

Opening hours:-
Monday to Friday 09:00 to 19:00
Saturday 09:00 to 18:00
Sunday Closed

I do not know if the whole of the UK has access to full fibre as yet; equally, I am not sure when in 2027 the analogue switch-off is due to take place. I have seen somewhere that the date might get put back, but don't quote me on that.

The TalkTalk Community has now moved to a peer-to-peer support model. This means that the TalkTalk team will no longer be here to support with queries.
