Bt call saying internet is public not private

Hi there, just had a call from BT on landline saying their techs had found my internet was public and not private so I need to change ip adress or hackers could access my internet etc even sent me an email from btcomms@info.bt.com is this a thing or another scam?

BT has no direct contact with TalkTalk customers; therefore, it is a definite scam.

@Counttuten, it will be a variant of the scam where they pretend to be Microsoft etc. They are just trying to sound plausible by saying BT.

 

Your Internet doesn't even have a static IP address anyway, as a residential service, so it was absolute rubbish.

@Counttuten while you discuss if this is a scam with @amahle-TT if you have any concerns regarding your IP address, turn off your router for at least 30 minutes, and if a full fibre customer, your ONT box too as this will start a new session and allocate a new IP.

 

Btw, If it was BT supposedly calling you, it suggests a scam as you are not a BT customer.
