Hi PandJ

I have replied to your Private Message.

Please can you add your name and TalkTalk landline number to your Community Profile, I can then send you a replacement router.

Hi Debbie thanks for your reply.

I recently bought a new laptop but when it asked for network security key to get onto wi-fi, not one of the passwords on back of router worked.

My suspicion is that, in the past my parents having opened scam e-mails and also having been scammed on the phone, as a result AVG very often reports that the IP address is visible to outsiders. I believe the system and router have been compromised, hence the request for a new router, if that is the solution.

Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi PandJ

Can I just check, are you experiencing any faults with your current router?

Thanks

@PandJ

Why do you want/need a new router? Does your current one have a fault? Which make/model is it?

Whatever your opinion on the matter, @AllyM, it's not really our place to speculate on the criteria used.

Also, it's not right to push the OP's thread back in the queue by posting further on this topic.

@Gliwmaeden2 ,

Just speaking from my own personal experience of what I've seen on this forum, it does seem to me like staff just hand out free routers at the drop of a hat, even in cases where the fault is clearly a result of customer induced damage.

Just a few examples:

Solved: damaged router power cable - TalkTalk Help & Support

Damaged router - TalkTalk Help & Support

Damage to router cable. - TalkTalk Help & Support

No, @AllyM, you don't "just say" it.

There needs to be a detectable fault! Staff won't just hand out free routers .....

They'll check for a few indicators.

Basically, you just say that you think your router has developed a fault, and staff on here will send you a new one free of charge.

Staff swap out routers for testing, if the old one has developed a fault, @PandJ.

Otherwise, you need to phone up and order one and be charged etc.

Forum staff will be back on here after the weekend.
