My system has been working well, but for the last week or two I've had problems connecting to the web via ethernet, and also via wifi.  The problem is getting worse and I am now often seeing "server not available" when i try to use the web.

To make matters worse I cant log in to the router admin page  as the credentials are wrong - my network is TALKTALKC*****4

Hi @oldfogie log in to the router and change the WiFi user and password to match your old user and password.

I don't work here and all my opinions are my own.

Following the reset the wifi credentials have changed.

I have rather a lot of data logging devices that rely on those credentials for connection.

How can I restore them to the old values ie TALKTALKC*****4 and password

as reprogramming the devices with new credentials would be VERY challenging

I can now log in, and the web conection is working. I'll need to monitor it for a while  to see if the wifi issues persist.

Restoring your router to its factory settings can help with speed issues or other connection problems. Basically, wipes out all data which may be preventing or affecting your router's performance. Once done with the reset, kindly double check for me if you would be able to login to your router Admin.

If I do that

1: will I be able to log in to the router to change settings

2: will I have to re-enter all my fixed IP addresses?

Thank you for confirming this to me. Before continuing forward, I will kindly ask for you to conduct the following steps to your router:

1) Switch your router on, if it isn't already.
2) Locate the reset pinhole button. This is usually on the back or side of your router.
3) Gently push a pin, a straightened paperclip or another appropriate item into the hole until you feel a click. Hold it for 30 seconds.
4) Any lights on the front of the router should turn off and come back on again.
5) Once your router has fully booted and any lights are on, you can reconnect your devices to your Wi-Fi.

Please confirm with feedback once done.

no

And just to confirm yes the router is conected to the master socket via a microfilter.

No worries as I do understand. Do you have any active monitoring for life threatening health reasons which is solely dependant upon your TalkTalk Broadband or Telephone line? For example a care alarm, lifeline, health pendant or fall detector.

yes. cant do much diagnosis as I cant log in.

And this would be when trying to login to your router Admin. Correct?

Message 12 of 18

Yes I'm frequently seeing a long wait or "Server not found" when I try to access a website.

@oldfogie, we are here. Let me look into this matter. Just to understand a few things, besides your IP address, does your broadband services affected by drops while being connected or slow performances?

These issues have developed - gradually becoming worse - over the last month or so. I havent made any changes to my installation in that time.  However I have noticed the router seems to be hotter than usual.

The connection via WiFi to the router is a LOT less reliable than via Ethernet, even for devices very close to it; but a WiFi connection to the powerline extender seems much more solid.

I'm reluctant to do anything that may make the situation worse and I do have several devices that are (and have been for years) at fixed IP addresses assigned in the router.

Can talktalk test the router from their end?

Hi @oldfogie , looks like a factory reset might be needed. I'm wondering about the WiFi discrepancy you mention in post 1, did you have a previous TT router from which you copied the WiFi settings rather than change them on each device?

I don't work here and all my opinions are my own.

I have "fixed" devices (PC's, printers, Powerline extender and my network monitor) connected via an ethernet network,
and "mobile" devices - tablet, phone, laptops etc that connect via WiFi.

Yes I've rebooted the router - shown below, and the details come from the back of the router, not the card - which I've pixelated here because it shows my active wifi credentials.

Hi @oldfogie have you tried rebooting your router?

Have you tried connecting by ethernet cable?

Do the router details you post come from the back of the router, or the slip out card on the back of the router?

I don't work here and all my opinions are my own.
